Thursday’s Bulletin had "Coal Miner's Daughter" playing there and that was showing last week. Some areas had quite a bit of lightning Wednesday night. Lightning hit one of the main lines and put the Columbus Substation out of commission for about an hour and 20 minutes. A community wide drop-in household shower for Mr and Mrs Horace Elliott will be held Saturday from 7 to 9 p m at the Sunny View Community House., Mr. and Mrs. Elliott lost their house by fire last month. The Polk County Rescue Squad Auxiliary has been selling homemade ice cream every Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m until at the Lynn Body Shop try ing to raise money for the new ambulance. They will be there this Sunday, but will NOT be there on Labor Day weekend They will return on Sept. 7th. Hensons’ girls softball team will participate in the Women’s American Softball Association National Tournament in Hamilton, Ohio. Hensons’ won the S C. The double elimination tournament will begin Saturday at 1 p.m and continue through 10 p.m. The games will continue Sunday at 1 p m. with the finals being at 7 p.m. The first round schedule is as follows: Saturday 1 p.m. — Frazier Ford vs Mayo 2 p.m. — Buck's Stove vs Rockettes 3 p.m, — Silver Fox vs Jackson Latures 4 p.m. — Walker's Construction vs The Diamonds 5 p m. — Lady Merchants vs Hen son's Football Scrimmages Tryon and Polk Central football teams will have scrimmage games tonight that begin at 7 p.m. Polk Central will travel to Chapman High School in Inman and Tryon will be hosts to Blue Ridge High School at Harmon field. Miss Kathy Cloud, a senior at Florida State University, Tallahassee, Fla is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Cloud, Wilderness Rd , Tryon. Ms. Connie Fox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs James Carter of Tryon has returned to U. N. C. at Chapel Hill where she is a junior. Governor Hunt Here Wednesday Governor James B. Hunt James B Hunt, Jr. Governor of North Carolina will be at the courthouse in Columbus Wednesday, Aug, 27that 8a.m. Born in May 1937 in Greensboro, Hunt was reared on a dairy and tobacco farm in the Rock Ridge community of Wilson County. He obtained the B. S. degree and Master’s degree from N. C. State University and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina law school. In 1964, Hunt went to Nepal as a Ford Foundation economic advisor to that nation's government He returned to Wilson in 1966 and joined the law firm of Kirby and Webb, becoming a partner in 1968 He is the author of the N. C. Democratic Party precinct Continued On Back Page Gets 25 Years Carolyn Stanfield Gosnell, 27, of Arcadia. S. C. was sentenced to 25 years Wednesday at the McDowell County courthouse in Marion by Judge Robert E. Gaines She was found guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death of her husband James Delmar Gosnell. 22, of Landrum last Wednesday in the Polk County Superior court, but had not been sentenced due to the illness of the judge. Gosnell was reportedly murdered in Columbus and then his body was taken to the Sigsbee area of Spartanburg County and put in an abandoned well. Tryon Band Boosters Tryon Band Boosters will meet Monday night. Aug. 25, at 7:30 p m in the Band Room. Officers are to meet at 7 pm. A spokesman said that this is an important meeting to start the year, so everyone please be there. Representing the Tryon Kiwanis Club at the Carolinas District Convention Charleston, S.
