The State Dept, of Transporta tion has scheduled the week of Sept. 8—12 for the fall “Clean Up Litter” campaign. They will provide a minimum of three Transportation maintenance crews and equipment in the county to work with volunteers and workers. They have a supply of large litter bags and will pick up at designated points along the highways. Bumper stickers, posters and buttons are also available. Chinese Premier Hua Guofeng formally told Parliament on Sunday that he is resigning his government post in favor of Zhao Ziyang. Tennis fans got a treat watching the U. S. Open during the past week. The good players make the game look so easy. The Tryon Kiwanis Club meets today at 12:45 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. The Tryon High girls Jayvee tennis game with Gaffney will be played at Harmon Field Thursday afternoon. Man and Wife Championship The Man and Wife Champion ship held Sunday at Red Fox Country Club was won by Ed and Claudia Ronsick who had a net 62. Other winners were: 2nd. Pete and Sally Peterson 64, 3rd. Bill and Peg McBrayer 65 (won playoff on card 1-up). 4th Dave and Barbara Halliday 65, Sth. Everette and Elsa Butler 66. Meets Tonight Cadette and Senior Girl Scout Troops 462 will meet at the Columbus Presbyterian Church tonight from 7 to 8:30. All girls ' n grades 7 — 12 are eligible. Parents are welcome at this meeting. Columbus 125th Anniversary All businesses and organizations in the area are invited to participate in the I own of Columbus’ 125 Anniversary on October 17th and 18th. The Parade will be on Saturday. Oct. 18th at 10 a.m. For further details call Peggy Dedman, 894-8326. Saturday afternoon the Tryon area got rain, hail and strong winds. A number of trees wen down in the area. A boat house on Lake Lanier owned by R° er Inman of Landrum was blo wn a its pilings and into the lake, roof and screen porch adjoining Inman Cottage were also damaged. Registration Bd. In Landrum Tonight The Spartanburg County Voters Registration Board will be at the Landrum Library tonight (Tues.) from 5:30 to 8:30. This will be the last time before the November election, that they will be in Landrum. Injured In Wreck A two-car accident occured Monday morning at 7:45 at the junction of Hwy. 14 and Prince Road in Landrum. Mrs. Elizabeth (Beth) H. McCallister of Landrum was traveling west on Hwy. 14 in a new 1980 Chevro let Chevette and Conrad Plumley of Rt. 2, Landrum was traveling east in a 1957 Chevrolet pick-up truck. Mr. Plumley attempted to make a left turn and hit Mrs. McCallister’s auto. Mrs. McCallister was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where she was treated for two broken toes, a broken clavicle and had a swollen knee x-rayed. Her car was totaled. Mrs. McCallister teaches French at Tryon High School. Mr. Plumley was not injured and had about $100 damage to his truck. Landrum Police Officer Jack Smith who investigated the accident said that Mr. Plumley was charged with failure to yield right of way and improper left turn.
