No official weather report for
Tuesday, but it was warm.
Wednesday morning was cooler
with some showers early in the
morning.
The League of Women Voters
decided Tuesday to include
independent candidate John
Anderson in the presidential
debates between President
Carter and Ronald Reagan.
Anderson and Reagan promptly
accepted the league’s invitation.
But Robert Strauss, the Carter
campaign chairman, said the
president would debate “any and
all candidates that Governor
Reagan and the League of
Women Voters can suggest if
Governor Reagan will first meet
the president in a one-on-one
debate."
A note from Mrs. Ruth
Douwsma reports that the
women of Mill Creek Church of
the Brethren hope to have a
chicken supper later in the year,
but that on Oct. 4th they are
having a bazaar with many
homemade goodies and gift
items. They usually have a
chicken supper at this time and
she said that many people had
been asking when it would take
place.

Communication
Schools develop personalities
all their own. As schools move
through various stages of
development one type of
leadership style in the
principalship may prove to be
more appropriate than another if
the school is to come close to
achieving its maximum
potential. One of my
reponsibilities as superintendent
is to determine what type of
leadership is most appropriate in
any given situation at any given
time, always looking at what’s
best overall for the school
system. I believe that the
primary skills that Carthon
Hinson and Alan Peoples bring
into the principalship can best be
utilized by the Polk County
Schools if a lateral transfer is
effected thereby moving Mr.
Hinson from Mill Spring to
Stearns and Mr. Peoples from
Stearns to Mill Spring.
I realize also that I have the
legal responsibility to assign and
reassign all school personnel but
I would like to have formal board
acceptance of these transfers to
be made effective immediately. I
will work out the administrative
details of the transfers and see to
it that each man is appropriately
introduced to the respective
faculties.

Steve Henson of Tryon has
