June 11, 1943 Bulletin. The A&P
ad had sugar 6c lb; Lamb Chops,
lb. 47' Pork Chops, lb. 40'; Wheat
Puffs, 3 oz. for 8' This was
during World War II and in ad
dition to the money, you needed
so many points to buy the grocery
items and so many red points
when you purchased meat. No
points were needed to buy fresh
fish and poultry.
C. M. Eargle brought in a
program bf the Polk County
Centennial which took place in
1955 and some wooden money
used at that time. The Polk

Landrum Approves
New Budget
The Landrum City Council and
Mid-Carolina Telephone Co.
reached a possible agreement
Tuesday night where the
company will have a five-year
contract requiring them to pay
one percent of all gross receipts
in lieu of a business license fee
Second reading approval was
given to refinancing a
$1,266,402.49 loan with the
Farmers Home Administration;
new rates and regulations of the
water and sewer systems; the
city’s $183,584 budget; and the
ordinance on the use of trash
dumpsters.

The Lake Lure Lions Club will
meet tonight at 7:30 at the
Fairfield Mountain Club.

unexpired term of Bryan Gruver
who resigned because of his
health.

its ladies night and installation of
officers Tuesday night at the
Pacolet River Plantation.

Polk Central
Students Tues.
A two vehicle accident at the
intersection of Hwy. 108 and No. 9
at Mill Spring took place Tuesday
afternoon soon after the close of
school at Polk Central. Four Polk
Central students were taken to
St. Luke's Hospital.
Critically injured was Miss
Lisa Arledge, 14, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Willie Arledge of Sunny
View, who was Uken toSt. Luke's
Hospital and transferred to
Spartanburg General Hospital
with head injuries. Miss Arledge
