Train Totals
Car Here
A Southern Railway freight
train hit the back of a 1980
Chevrolet Chevette Monday
about 3 p.m. at the Trade Street
Railway crossing near Steve's
Gulf. The car, which was driven
by Mrs. Lawrence Pexton of
Brookwood Drive, Tryon stalled
on the tracks and when Mrs,
Pexton couldn't get it started, she
abandoned the vehicle. The train
hit the car in the rear and
knocked it about 15 ft. The train
was headed west and Mrs.
Pexton was also headed in the
same direction. No one was
injured.
J. A. Hamlin of Asheville was
the engineer on the train.
Train Hits Car
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fox of
Landrum were driving a ye
Datsun and were hit by a trai
about 2:15 on Tuesday at tne
Landrum crossing.

kept blowing his horn as the train
was coming toward Tryo -

A New Arrival
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Seawright,
East Main St.. Inman, S. C., are
parents of a daughter, Brandy
Winn, born September 29 at Mary
Black HospiUl in SparUnburg.
She weighed 8 lbs.

and Mrs. Jim Kuykendall,
Skyuka Road, Columbus, N. C.
Paternal grandparets are Mr.
and Mrs. Clayton Seawright of
Inman, S. C.

Strider News
A number of the Polk County
Striders participated in the
Oktoberfest Races at Greenville
Sunday in the rain
John Janulis ran 10 miles in
59.57 (his best time). He was first
in his age group and 20th overall.
Gary Taylor ran 5 miles in 29 50
(his best time). He was Sth in his
age group and 17th overall
Choya McEntire ran 5 miles in
33.35. He was 63rd overall
Ricky Walker ran 5 miles in
38.33 and was 157th overall
Allison Meares ran her first 5-
mile race in 38 30. She was Sth in
her age group and 151st overall.
There were about 250 people in
the 5 mile race.
The Polk County Striders plan
to run Oct 18th in the Greer
Greater Chamber of Commerce
race as a team.
