Annual County Science Day Set In Green River Cove The 4-H program is a natural setting in which to satisfy the curiosity of and develop the abilities of youth. The Science Day Lamp for all 6th graders in Polk County will be held October 7 8 and 9 in the natural setting of the Green River Cove. Ap proximately 200 students will be attending outdoor classes in such ^“gb* by BUJ Stanton-NCSU; Reptiles, Henry Meares-YMCA; Archery, taught by Rick HamUton-NCSU ^"^y t ? ught by Waltcr Mars-Duke Power; Wildlife, taught by Bob Hazle-retired Wildlife Commissioner 7 For a child who likes animals there is the dairy or beef calf, swine, sheep, horse, and dog projects. The child learns valuable lessons in grooming, feeding, training, and showing an animal. To win prize money helps to make all that work easier. To me one of the most important activities in 4-H is demonstrations. A child demonstrates in front of a group how to make something or shows how to do a project. In this a child learns public speaking, self-confidence, and poise. To be able to make a speech without being scared or your knees shaking is a valuable asset not only in 4-H work, but in school, making talks, and meeting new people.
