WNC Golf Open
Underway
The second annual Western
N. C. Golf Open, sponsored
by Buck Stove got underway
Monday at Red Fox Country Club
with a pro-am. The 36-hole events
starting today features play in
four divisions. There are 145
golfers from western North
Carolina area playing in pro,
scratch amateur, flighted
amateur and senior divisions.
Players have to be members of
the clubs in the western section
that employ pros of the
Mountains Chapter of the PGA
Ernie Reid of Lenoir is the
defending professional and
Freddie Edwards of Tryon, who
plays on the University of
Tennessee golf team, is the
defending amateur winner.
In addition to the other
divisions, there will be a team
competition with six man teams.
The low five gross scores from
each time determine the team
winner.
Landrum PTA
Meets Tonight
The Landrum PTA will have
“Meet the Teachers and Room
Visitation" tonight at 7:30 at 0
p Earle School. Parents will
have an opportunity to visit their
children’s room, see the work
they have been doing and talking
with their teachers.
Refreshments will be served.

Is Thursday at 3:30
The Landrum Homecoming
Parade will be Thursday, Oct. 16,
at 3:30 p.m. The parade will
begin at the depot and end at the
high school. It is sponsored by the
Senior Class.
Newspaper Week
The Kiwanis Club of Tryon is
joining in paying tribute to the
newspapers of the free world,
during National Newspaper
Week, Oct. 12 - 18 according to
Odell Matthews, president.
Theme of this year’s National
Newspaper Week observance is
"Our Freedom Safeguards Your
I' reedom. National Newspaper
Week will be observed by many
of the 6000 Kiwanis Clubs and
give Kiwanians an opportunity to
thank publicly the people of the
press who have helped them in
their community service work
This is the 41st annual Kiwanis
observance of National
Newspaper Week.
