Tryon Daily B “" e “";™ cs " ° actually form their own quality Cherokee Blanks Polk Central 41-0 The Cherokee Braves defeated the Polk Central Patriots 41 Friday night at Cherokee Mark Grant rushed for 104 yards and scored 3 touchdowns in 12 carries. He scored tw.ce in the second quarter, once on a 6-yd. sprint and again on a Patriot fumble which he ran 19 yards. He scored in the 4th quarter on a screen pass from Lumpy Lamber that was good for 21 yards. Cherokee's other 1st half scores came on a short pass from Pepper Taylor to Lumpy Lambert and a blocked punt which Bugger Arch recoveredin the end zone. Horace Arch scored in the second half on a 5 yard run. Polk Central Coach Ken Brumley didn't think the Patriots played well, especially the offensive unity. He thought that Randy McDaniel had a good game at safety with two interce ptions and several key tackles. He said that Robert Lynch had another good game at middle linebacker. The Little Cards scored on their first possession with Mark Orduna scoring on a 55 yd. reverse play and Trey Fincher swept right end for the 2 point conversion. The Little Cards scored later in the half with Shane Greene going around left end and then Nick Flynn ran the conversion. In the second half, Orduna scored from 15 yards out and Brian Kuykendall ran the extra point. He pointed out that the difference in attitude between American and Japanese manufacturers and workers.
