chilly and it looked as if it would
rain later in the day.
Clarence B. Dimsdale was
found dead in his home Thursday
about 7 p.m. by neighbors in
Spicer's Cove in Cooper’s Gap
Township. Mr. Dimsdale died of
natural causes.
The First Federal Savings and
Loan Association office opens
today at 9 a.m. at 600 Trade
Street in Tryon.
Today at 5:30 the Senior
Citizens meet at The Meeting
Place for a covered dish supper
and then will hear Tryon
Postmaster B. M. Barham
The Tryon Chamber of
Commerce annua) meeting is
tonight at 7 at the Tryon Town
Hall.
Thursday there will be a
Southern Steak or Turkey dinner

Democrat Women
Meet Tonight
The Democrat Women of Polk
County meet tonight (Mon.) at
7:30 at Democratic Headquarters
in Columbus.
Halloween Carnival
The Thermal Belt Business and
Professional Women are holding
a Halloween Carnival Friday,
Oct. 31st from 6 to 10 p.m. at
Palmetto Field Gym. There will
be pony rides, bake sales, cake
walks, games, costume prizes,
etc.

Loyalty Campaign
Paul E. Culberson of Tryon has
been appointed Polk County
chairman of North Carolina State
University Alumni Association s
1980-81 Loyalty Fund Campaign.
Culberson, a 1941 graduate of
N. C. State's School of Ag. and
Life Sciences said:
“There are 26 N. C State
alumni in Polk County, and we re
counting on them to help sustain
and expand our first true merit
scholarship program. Volunteers
will be calling the Alumni in the
County November 10 10
November 25 asking for their
support." ..

County and the surrounding area
will be a key in the association s
efforts to raise more than
$400,000.
Crain Receives
Grant For
Polk Central
Keith Crain
Keith Crain has written a
proposal for a state grant which
has been accepted by the Gifted
and Talented section of the
Division For Exceptional
Children of the State Department
of Public Instruction. The grant
is in the amount of $800.00
Crain and the math department
at Polk Central High School will
administer a program of
internships in which selected
students will shadow individuals
in business and industry who are
making their living in the field of
mathematics.
Polk Central officials are
hopeful that this will
realistic concept to
give a
math
students of mathematics as a
career.
Body Found In
Green River Cove
Two squirrel hunters
discovered a body in Green River
Cove Thursday afternoon about
2:30 p.m. Polk County Sheriff
Boyce Carswell said that the
body believed to be that of a white
male, had been dead for several
months.
