The gallery was packed with old friends and admirers of Mr. Ingwersen. who died last May. The crowd saw many of his watercolors never on public display before. They were on loan from the homes of many Tryon residents. The crowd was enthusiastic about the overall quality of Ingwersen's work. The retrospective made not only his widow, "Bert", happy but also another widow, Mrs. Michael (Ruth) Danis, president of the Tryon Painters and Sculptors Club Mrs. Danis had to put the show together in a hurry — to replace a show originally scheduled for Claire Miller Hopkins of Spartanburg for the month of November. She does pastels and water colors. She failed to keep her date. In the opinion of this reviewer, the Ingwersen show was better than the one originally scheduled, and certainly more popular with the Tryon public. Mrs. Danis is to be congratulated on her quick solution to a vexing problem. The versatility of Lou Ingwersen, the variety of ideas for pictures that came to his mind, here, there, whether in Paris, in Tryon, in Louisianna — charge through November. Some examples: "Bellingrath Gardens" (property of 0. 0. Paulsell) is an extraordinary example of detail in a watercolor The picture shows a courtyard of the famous gardens near Mobile. The centerpiece in a balcony rimmed by a white scrollwork cast 'iron railing. Every single detail in that balcony railing is clearly shown. Completely different in style is a country road scene owned by the Walter Culins, very loosely sketched, no details, pine trees, a splash of green, shadows on the road merely swashes of pale cream and grey “Street Scene in Rome" is a multitude of fine details — every flute in two fluted columns clearly defined, not a detail missing in the complicated decorative facade of a small church. "Barn in Wisconsin" is a complete contrast — a great bulk of grey-black covering most of the paper in the frame, a very effective study. "St. Augustine" is a crisp sketch of white and dunes, silhouetted palmettos, the clear, clean scene bathed in sparkling sunlight. Recertified In Family Practice KANSAS CITY, MO. - Dr. Roy L.
