When this happened Tryon police officer Billy Stepp went around Duke's car and took out after the truck, followed by Duke. Upon further investigation it was learned that Means had escaped at 4:30 p.m from a work detail in Spartanburg County Minimum Security Camp and stolen a state truck. He was serving a 10 year sentence in Spartanburg County for armed robbery. Miss Kirby is a teacher at Polk Central High School. Means has been charged with armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, felonious breaking and entering and larceny and resisting arrest, but more charges will probably be added.
