The all-white Guilford County jury returned the verdicts after 6'_. days of deliberation, ending a 23-week trial, the longest ever in the state N. C. Officials Monday approved construction of the state’s first hazardous waste treatment and recycling plant 10 rniles south of downtown Charlotte. The plant will neutralize or burn textile dyes, pesticides, herbicides and other liquid chemical wastes from industries up to 150 miles from Mecklenburg County. It will not treat such materials as radioactive waste and poluchlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). A snow storm left West Texas and Oklahoma mired in a snow a foot deep Monday, and left traffic paralyzed and schools closed before it headed east into Pennsylvania and the Appalachian Mountains.
