Boy Scout Campaign Goes Over Goal The Boy Scout Camp Development Campaign for $1,500,000 to build a new camp in Rutherford County exceeded its goal Nov. 11 at the Victory Dinner held at Club Carolina in Cherryville with total pledges reported of $1,757,113.00 which is 117% of goal. Jr of a large collection of maps and plats from the Estate of Waverly M Hester, a leading realtor and land developer in this area for many years Mrs Roff is the former Margo Hester The collection includes maps, and plats, blueprints transparencies of properties in Polk County, also Landrum an other parts of South Carolina. Included are maps of eariy Gillette Woods and other section of Tryon. Melrose Mountain. Delta Investment co„ collection has been catalogued Dr JosephC Placak Curatorof the Museum, assisted uy Karl Nesslinger and d Couper The Museum is locate in Tryon Depot and is open public, admission ' i nas Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 a m to 12 noon The Bulletin. 10c Per ^ 0 ^ The Cosmic Reporter "NASA Educational Program Coming to Our Area" By Tim Linder During the first two weeks of December three NASA lecturers along with three vans full of spacecraft models and exhibits will be visiting most of the schools in this area. During the opening day of the program (Dec. 1) astronaut David Griggs will be at the 0. P. Earle Elementary School (who is coordinating the program with NASA's Langley Research Center! in Landrum to meet the students and talk to them about the space program. Astronaut Griggs was chosen as a NADA Space Shuttle astronaut in January 1978. Griggs has been employed by NASA since 1970 as a test pilot and was in charge of the Shuttle training aircraft. The three lecturers who will be visiting the schools are Roger Hathaway, George Allison, and Harry Herzer. Mr. Hathaway will be speaking mainly at the high schools while Mr Allison and Mr. Herzer will be speaking at the elementary schools The program will consist of an assembly and visits to each of the classrooms. At the assembly the lecturer will speak to the students about the different aspects of the space program and explain the various spacecraft models brought to the school in one of the "Spacemobile" vans. After the assembly the lecturer (and an assistant from the Landrum/Tryon area) will visit each of the classrooms and answer students questions about the space program. Of the three vans two are called "Spacemobiles" which will be used for elementary schools The third van, the Aeronautics Van. is a walk through exhibit of the most recent advances in the field of aeronautics. This program is not entirely for students only. On the weekend of December 6-7 the public will get a chance to visit the Aeronautics Van and ask any questions they may have about the space program On Saturday. December 6, the van will be at the Landrum Community Cash Store from 9a m until 12 noon From 2 p m until 5 p m the van will be parked at the Inman Community Cash. On Sunday, December 7, the van will be at the Tryon Mall (Bi-Lo) from 1 p.m until 5 p m The following is a schedule of when the lecturers will be at the schools: Dec 1 Opening day of the 1 Daily Bulletin, Wed., Nov. 19. 1980 program. All three lecturers and astronaut will be at the Landrum Schools. Dec. 2: 0. P. Earle, Inman Elementary, Landrum High School. Dec. 3: Polk Central, Landrum High School, New Prospect. Dec. 4: Inman Elementary, Chapman, Campobello. Dec 5: 0. P. Earle, Tryon High School. Landrum High School. Dec. 8: Holly Springs, Campobello. Dec. 9: Tryon Elementary. New Prospect Dec 10: Saluda School. Tryon Elementary. Dec. 11: Stearns School. Holly Springs. Dec. 12: Mill Spring School. 0. P. Earle. 1 hope you will all take the time to visit the Aeronautics Van when it is in your area. I'm sure you will find it very interesting.
