Tuesday afternoon 38 people
attended the Planning Board
hearing at the Town Hall on the
proposal of A. M. Stone to have 60
town house units on 8.5 acres in
Stone's Throw subdivision. The
Planning Board listened to

John W. McFarland
John Walker McFarland, 73,
died Tuesday at his home in
Rochester. Michigan. He had
retired from Detroit Edison
Electric Co. He had made his
home in Michigan for the past 50
years.
He was a native of Polk County
and was a son of the late Robert
F. and Maude Newman
McFarland
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Marie McFarland; a son. Robert
McFarland of Berkley. Mich ; a
daughter. Mrs. M. G McInerney,
Bloomfield Hills, Mich ; two
sisters, Mrs. Joe C. White of
Hickory and Mrs. Walter Lowe of
Landrum, S. C.; one brother,
William A McFarland of
Columbus; 12 grandchildren and
2 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today in
Detroit.

Scott Arledge. son of Willie and

Spring, has been chosen as Polk
Central’s Good Citizen in a
contest sponsored by the Joseph
McDowell Chapter of the
National Society Daughters of the
American Revolution The
eligibility requirements were
simple: the Student (either a boy
or a girl) must be in the Senior
Class of an accredited public high
school in good standing with the
State Board of Education; must
be a citizen of the United States of
America
With all the above
requirements met, Scott was then
selected by the Polk Central
faculty on the grounds of his
