Central 79 to 53 Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Carswell of
Wilkesboro, N. C. are parents of
a daughter, Sandra JoAnne, born
Feb. 3rd at Wilkes General
Hospital in North Wilkesboro.
She has a sister, LeAnne, age 7.

Mill Spring. Maternal
grandparents are Mr and Mrs.

Meet Friday
The Tryon - Polk County
Republican Women will meet at 3
pm. Friday, Feb. 13 in the
Hunting Country at "Maywood”,
the home of Mrs. Barbara
McClintock. The meeting will be
organizational and will feature
reports from various committee
chairmen and from special guest

To Perform Friday
The Gymnastics Club of Tryon
Elementary School will perform
Friday, February 13. This
performance will take place
during the halftime intermission
of the boys basketball game.

Lowry Elected
Jim Lowry of Tryon, North
Carolina, has been elected to the
1981 Chevrolet Dealer Council for
the Charlotte Zone.
Mr. Lowry of Lowry Chevrolet,
Inc. in Tryon, was elected to the
Zone Council by his fellow
dealers and participated in
recent zone meetings. Eight
regional dealer meetings will be
held in advance of the Charlote
National Dealer Council meeting
in Detroit during April
The Council, first founded in
1937, is organized for dealers and
manufacturers to discuss areas
of interests of the nearly 6,000
Chevrolet dealers. The Charlotte
Zone includes 178 dealers in
North and South Carolina.

January 19th. Jeremy has a

Fire
The Landrum Volunteer Fire
Department was called out
Sunday at 9:30 p.m. to the home
of Virgil Metcalf on Tucker
Street. The fire damage was
confined to one room.

Canton doggers
To Return Feb. 21
There will be no clogging
tonight at Stearns gym in
Columbus, but on Saturday,
February 21, at 7:30 p.m. the
Carolina Cloggers from Canton
will return to Stearns School for
another evening of mountain
cloggying demonstration and
instruction. This visit, sponsored
jointly by the Polk County
Community Schools and the
County Recreation Department,
will feature the entire Canton
group in full costume,
accompanied by some of the
younger cloggers who are
members of their team as well.
Rsponse to the two visits by the
Canton Cloggers on January 27
and February 3 has been so
enthusiastic that the Polk County
Recreation Department is
organizing regular meetings for
adults interested in mountain
clog dancing. An organizational
get-together will soon be
announced. In the meantime,
inquiries should be made to the
County Recreation Office, 894-
8819 or to the Polk County
Community Schools, 894-3905. —

Meet Tonight
The Tryon Lions Club will meet
tonight at 7 o’clock at the Pacolet
River Plantation. Miss Selina
Lewis will speak on Thousand
Pines Inn and early Tryon.
Marion Brock is in charge of
the program.
