Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer will marry on July 29 in a world televised ceremony that, in a break with royal tradition, will take place in St. Paul’s Cathedral instead of Westminster Abbey. President Reagan said Tuesday he does not foresee sending U. S. combat troops to El Salvador. The Tryon Police Department requests that people not call the Department to ask where the fire is when the fire siren goes off. The dispatchers have their hands full at that time and don't need to answer the phone except for police and fire business. The Lanier Library had two copies of "The Importance of Being Earnest." The Polk Central girls advanced to the District Finals before losing to Hiwassee Dam. The Landrum boys won their first round playoff game and play in the quarter-finals Friday against (Continued On Back Page) Address Changes On March 21st The U. S. Postal Service will be re-aligning territory effective March 21st. This will affect all residents who currently live in North Carolina, but receive mail with a South Carolina address. This change is a nationwide effort. Those Polk County residents who currently receive mail from Landrum and Campobello will receive mail on Rt. 2, Columbus except for a few who will receive mail from Rt. 1, Tryon. Those on Rt. 1, Chesnee will have a Rutherfordton Rt. 4 address. A few on Rt. 1, Tryon (Dug Hill Road, Lake Lanier Drive, etc.) will have the same address, but it will be on Rt. 1, Landrum. AFS Program At Rotary Friday The Tryon Rotary Club will meet Friday at 12:45 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. Mrs. Shaw Pettigrew and Mrs. Carroll Brady will present a program- about the AFS program in Polk County. Mrs. Pettigrew and Mrs. Brady are co-presidents of Polk County Chapter of AFS. The foreign students currently going to school in Polk County are Jama Sorsa of Finland, Rosita Molina of Mexico. Chico Vasquez of Costa Rica, Dugald Ross of South Africa. They will present a slide presentation and a short talk on their native country. Landrum Boys Beat Jonesville 80-67 Playing one of their better basketball games of the year, the Landrum Cardinal boys defeated Jonesville 80 to 67 Tuesday night at Landrum. Landrum, now 21-6 will meet the winner of the Clio- Lamar game Friday night at 7:30 at Lugoff-Elgin High School. Jonesville finished the season at 20-7. Jonesville held a four point lead in the second quarter but Landrum used a half-court trap and Kelly Cash came up with two key steals that were converted into points. Al halftime Landrum led 33-27 and then put the game out of reach in the third quarter as they went out front 56 to 38. Leading the Landrum charge was Ricky McDowell who had 27 points and 18 rebounds as well as a number of blocked shots. Greg Ruff had 17 points, Jeff Pace 14 points and Todd Hardin 12 points. Coach Ron Hicks was pleased with the play of his team and felt that the Cardinal defensive play was the key to their win. Jonesville was lead by Donald Addis and Randy Nash who had 18 points each. Tryon Boys Win; In State Finals The Tryon boys basketball team defeated Hiwassee Dam 76- 55 Tuesday night at Tuscola High School, winning the District 4 1-A Title and advancing to the State Finals on Friday, March 20th at 7 p.m. in the Greensboro Coliseum The 2-A finals will be played at 8:30. This is the first time a Tryon basketball team has reached the State finals. Two years ago they reached the semi-finals at Garner near Raleigh and lost to John Wilkinson High School. Athletic Director Geoffery Tennant stated that tlie District 4- A winner got a bye into the finals and would have to meet the East Regional winner which will be determined next week. Back to the game! The Tigers started out cold as their shots wouldn't fall and they found themselves behind 4-0, before Darrell Counts hit a jumper. Sam Miller hit a free throw and then Lindsey Miller connected to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead and they were on their way. By the end of the first quarter the Tigers pulled out front 19-11. The second quarter found the Tigers out front by 14 points, but sloppy ball handing dissipated their lead to 6 points by halftime and the score was 32-26. Tryon jumped out to a fast start in the second half and by the end of the third period led 56-40. At one time the Tigers led by 24 points (72-48) before settling for a 76-55 margin.
