Ronald Reagan's first foreign
visit as president got off to a
rough start Tuesday as
Canadians protesting a range of
U. S. policies disrupted official
welcoming ceremonies.
Postage will be increased on
the 22nd. Postage for letters will
go to 18c and postals will go to
12c. Other classes of mail will
also go up at this time.
The Book Fair is being held at
Polk Central High School today
and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
and also tonight from 7 to9.
The Appearance Commission
meets today at 3:30 in the
Commissioners Room and the
Planning Board meets tonight at
7:30, also in the Commissioners
Room.
The “Spring In Tryon" Fashion

Black Americans”
Warren Carson, Jr. has been
named to the 3rd edition ot
"Who’s Who Among Black
Americans", 1980-81. He is one of
over 16.000 individuals selected
for this honor based on
outstanding achievement in a
career of meritorious activity. He
is a native of Tryon, a graduate of
Tryon High School, UNC at
Chapel Hill, and holds a Master's
Degree from Atlanta University.
Currently, he is an instructor and
English Department Head at
Rutledge College in Spartanburg.
He is active in numerous civic,
religious and community affairs.

Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Davis of
Landrum, S. C. are parents of a
daughter, Leslie Nicole, born
March 10th at Spartanburg
General Hospital. She has a
sister, Athena, age 2.
The maternal grandmother is
Mrs. Mary Green of Tryon and
the paternal grandparents are
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Davis of
Lake Bowen, S. C.
Spaders To Meet
The Spaders Garden Club will
meet at the home of Mrs. Joe
Bagwell on Thurs., March 12th at
7:30p.m.
Mrs Bagwell will give a
program of "Birds."
Mike Sheehan
Is Honored
Mike Sheehan of Polk County
was announced by Paul J.
Lancaster, Jr., Sales Manager of
Farm Bureau Insurance
Companies, as a Top Producing
Agency Manager (Category II) in
1980.
Mr. Sheehan was selected as
one of five Top Producing Agency
Managers in North Carolina
because of his Agency's
outstanding sales and service
record during 1980 for multi-lines
of insurance.
This honor was announced at
the Annual Sales Conference of
the Farm Bureau Insurance
Companies held in Charlotte at
the Radisson Plaza on March 2 —
engagement of their daughter,
Janet Elizabeth, to Dennis Lane
Horton.
Mr. Horton is the son of Mr. and
Mrs Dean Horton of Columbus.
He was graduated from Polk
Central High School and attended
Spartanburg Technical College.
He is employed by Milliken
Chemicals in Inman
Miss Humphries was
graduated from Landrum High
School and attended the
University of South Carolina at
Spartanburg. She is employed at
Community Cash in Landrum.
An April 18th wedding is
planned at Landrum First
Baptist Church.
Registration for Green Creek
Little League and Senior League
will be held Saturday at 2 p m. at
the Community Building.

ICC Speaker
Walter Sullivan, award
winning science writer and
Science Editor of The New York
Times, will speak at Isothermal
Community College in Spindale
on Mon., March 16, at 8 p.m. in
the ICC library auditorium
Sullivan’s topic will be "Hopes
and Fears of the Year 2,000
The public is invited and
admission is free
Sullivan's visit is being
sponsored by ICC and Friends of
the College in conjunction- with
the ICG-sponsored Science Fair
that will be held at the college
April 9.10 and 12.
