Meet Monday
The Polk County
Commissioners will meet
Monday at 7 p m. at Green Creek
School.
Weather Wednesday: high 60,
low 29. Thursday was windy, but
sunny.
The Tryon Riding & Hunt Club
reports that three of the six
parking areas at the Block House
Steeplechase have been sold
This year there will be no general
admission. only reserved
parking.
The Harmon Field hearing is
tonight at 8 o'clock at the
courthouse in Columbus Those
who are interested in Harmon
Field and its survival should be
there Harmon Field is a valuable
asset to us all. Many of us have
used its facilities for its 50-odd
years and so have our children
and grandchildren There will be
special legislation introduced to
redistribute the Tryon ABC Store
profits to allow more to go to
Harmon Field and cut out the
part that presently goes to the
county. This will help with the
financial pinch that Harmon
Field presently finds itself in. At
the first hearing the 90-odd people
present voted unanimously to
support this proposal Now the
County Commissioners feel that
it is necessary to have a second
hearing Maybe they will want a
third and a fourth. Our
representatives in the State

Meeting April6

holding an organizational
meeting for all interested men
and/or women for Softball

Milton Academy are visiting
their grandparents, Mr and Mrs.
Fred E Placak of Skyuka Road
during their spring recess.
3-Vehicle Accident
Wednesday morning about
10:30, there was a 3-car accident
in Front of Tryon Motors on
Trade St. Woodrow Hague of
Tryon, driving a '73 Cadillac had
stopped at the stop light; William
R. Prince of Spartanburg,
driving a 52’ Cadillac, stopped
behind Mr Hague’s car. Eston
Huntsinger of Rt. 1, Landrum
driving a '71 Mercury ploughed
into the back of Mr. Prince's car
and knocked Mr Prince's car
into Mr. Hague's car.
Tryon Police officer Leon Foy
stated that Mr. Huntsinger
blacked out prior to the accident.
Mr. Huntsinger's car and Mr.
Prince's car were totaled while
Mr. Hague's car had
approximately $1500 damage.
Mr Huntsinger and Mr. Prince
were taken to St. Luke's Hospital
were both were treated and
released.
Fires
The Landrum Fire Department
was called to a wood's fire near
the home of Eugene Bailey in the
Oak Grove section about 11:30
Wednesday. The firemen were
called back about 5 p.m. when the
fire jumped to another section of
the woods Several acres were
burned

Fiddlers
Convention
The 2nd Annual Upper South
Carolina State Fiddlers
Convention will be held Saturday
at the Landrum High School gym
from 1 p.m. until 11 p.m. The
contest time is 7 p.m. until 10
p.m.
The Landrum Band Boosters
are sponsoring the event and a
spokesman said that is is fun for
the entire family. Admission is $3
for adults, $2 for students and $1
for those under 12.
A band contest is from 2 to 5
p.m.
Funfest Talent Show
Fashion Revue
The Funfest-Talent Show and
Fashion Revue will be held on
Saturday, March 14, 8 p.m. at the
Tryon Fine Arts Center.
The Funfest-Talent Show,
directed by Mrs Christine Fitch,
will include 22 acts ranging from
clogging, jazz, tap to skits.
The Fashion Show, directed by
Mrs. Betsy Milsteen with Miss
Jeri Hill acting as narrator, will
show the latest fashions for the
pre-teen and teen

The Funfest-Talent Show and
Fashion Revue is sponsored by
the Polk County 4-H Foundation
and coordinated by Polk County
4-H Agents. Doug Roach and
Deborah Johnson.
