29. Wednesday morning was
sunny, but by noon it was cloudy.
Production by U. S. industry
fell in February for the first time
in seven months, and Americans
recorded their smallest personal
income gain since last summer,
the government reported
Tuesday.
The Los Angeles School Board
voted 5-0 to end mandatory
busing on April to rather than
waiting two months until school
ends. Under the policy the
parents could either leave their
children in their present schools
through June or return them to
their home schools. The Los
Angeles teachers union and the
American Civil Liberties said
that they will go to court to try to
keep the school board from
ending forced busing at mid
year.
Tonight from 6:30 to 8 o’clock is
the Lamb or Chicken Dinner at
St. Luke's C.M.E. Church.
Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. is
the Spaghetti Supper at Polk
Central High School.
Friday at 7 p.m. the Tryon
Tigers play Pantego in the
Greensboro Colesium.
Saturday at 2 p.m. is the Green

Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Russell of
Brookfield, Conn, have bought
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Barnes on Rt. 2, Columbus.
Mr. Russell is a native of
Naugatuck, Conn, and formerly
worked for Sealtest Dairies. He
enjoyes gardening and golf.
Mrs. Russell is a native of Mt.
Vernon, N. Y. and enjoys
gardening and sewing.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell have five
thildren, Miss Evelyn Russell,
vho makes her home with her
parents; William Russell of
Colonial Heights, Va.; Milton
Russell of Colorado Springs.
Colorado; Mrs. Sylvia Wahl.
Nashville, Tenn and John Russell
of Boston, Mass. They also have
16 grandchildren and 2 great-
grandchildren.
Tryouts For
Little League,
Senior League
There will be tryouts for the
Green Creek Little League and
Senior League Saturday at the
Green Creek Elementary School.
The Little League tryouts will be
at 2 p.m. and the Senior League
tryouts at 3 p.m. If unable to
attend notify Morris Ruff or
Ronnie Champion.
Singing Saturday
There will be a singing
Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Victory
Baptist Church. The Justive
family of Hendersonville will be
the guest singers.

Walter Mize
Walter Mize, son of Dr. and
Mrs. Tom Mize and a Tryon
Senior, was honored at the school
Friday in a brief going away
celebration commemorating his
selection as an AFS scholar.
Walter was in Los Angeles
attending AFS orientation. He
left Wednesday for Bangkok,
Thailand, where he will remain
for two weeks, attending sessions
designed to acclimate him to a
new country, its culture, and
language (Thai, reportedly an
extremely difficult language).
From Bangkok, Waiter will
travel to Leei, where he will live
for a year with a Thai family.
The faculty and parents will
play the students in basketball at
the Campobello-Gramling School
tonight Thursday, March 19th at 7

April 11th Is
Tryon Day
The Board of Commissioners of
the Town of Tryon has issued a
proclamation setting aside April
11th as the First Annual Tryon
Day. The day will be to promote
the business activities of the
town, the arts and crafts, the
youth of the community; to
dedicate the Tryon Stairs, the
John W. Cowan Memorial
Gardens and the Depot Gardens;
and to generally promote and
celebrate the beauty and quality
of the Tryon Community.
