Polk Band
To Give
Crusade Salute
On Thursday, April 2 at 8 pm.
the American Cancer Society will
have its annual Crusade “Kick-
Off" at the Fine Arts Center.
“Polk County Showcase" is the
title of this year's opening
benefit.
While acknowledging the
seriousness of the occasion — the
April Crusade against cancer —
the officers of the Polk County
Unit have decided to call on some
of the county's own sparkling
native talent for the evening's
entertainment. The April 2 roster
is therefore composed of several
groups of youthful performers
who, under the direction of
Master of Ceremonies Ron
Mosseller, are donating their
time and efforts to the cause of
cancer research.
One such group is the Polk
Central Band, which may feel has
come to maturity in the hands of
David Senn, its director for the
past seven years Like other
bands, this fifty piece ensemble
has its loyal boosters and
scrambles continuously to raise
funds for its own projects!
including an upcoming trip to
Chicao in May As a show-
opening on April 2, the “Patriots"
will march down the aisle of the
Fine Arts Center in full dress
regalia, preceded by the color
guard and led by Drum Major
Scott Cudd. who holds 1st chair
bass clarinet position in the state
