All of the basketball fans in Illis
area were pulling for North
Carolina against Indiana in the
NCAA basketball finals, but since
we went to press before that time
we don’t know who won.
The Iron Horse Guild will be
featured on the Nancy Welch
Show today at 12:05 on WSPA-TV
One of the items featured will be
the Gnome House, made by Pat
Dunton of Pea Ridge. Miss
Dunton’s Grome House was
featured recently by Jan Hersey
in a national magazine.
The Polk County Soil and Water
Conservation District Board and
the Polk County Commissioners
will meet tonight at 8 o’clock in
the Agricultural Extension
Conference Room to try to work
out some of their differences.
Democrats and Republicans
can work together when the chips
are down. Last Thursday night,
Hoyt Pack, Chairman of the
Democrat Precinct No. 8 had an
attack while in the courthouse
conducting a meeting. Marvin

Thompson Reunion
The town of Saluda is
celebrating its 100th birthday this
year and the Annual Thompson
Reunion will be held there at the
Saluda Firehouse on Sunday.
June 28. Thompsons, descendants
and friends are invited to bring
their favorite covered dish and
share a meal, fellowship and
history together. Lunch will be
served at 12:45 The Firehouse is
located on Greenville St above
the Pavilion.

Carolyn Roff placed first in her
age group and second overall in
the women’s division in the sixth
annual Thomas Wolfe Road race.
Her time for the 5k race held in
Asheville, March 29 was 21:17.

local representative for Mutual of
Omaha and United of Omaha, has
recently completed a
comprehensive insurance course
offered at the National Sales
Training School in Miami, Fla.
Cross is associated with the
Kenneth Chase Division Office,
the Mutual and United Agency in
Asheville.

In Concert Saturday
Alesia Gibson
Alesia Gibson, a Columbus
resident who performed in a
recent folk bluegrass concert at
Isothermal Community College,
will appear again on ICC stage
on Sat., April 4, at 8 p.m. Gibson
will sing a selection of old folk
ballads, rock n' roll, and country
western songs.
Although only 19, Gibson is no
stranger to the stage. She has
participated in talent shows all
over the state, winning or placing
in several. "Emotion”, she
states, “is what I’m trying to get
across. I use my voice to
interpret songs, not imitate
singers."
In addition to her talent as a
singer, Gibson writes lyrics and
studios poetry writing with Jeff
Friedman, ICC's Visiting Artist
in-Residence. In February, she
won 2nd place in the First Annual
Anuran Poetry Contest for her
poem, “The Leather Bag.” “I
