The Harmon Field Commission meets at 7 p.m. in the Tryon ABC office. The Tryon School Board meets tonight at 7:30 in the Supt.’s office at the high school. Tomorrow the voters of School District I go to the polls to elect two members of the School Board Fred Seely, Jr. will talk on “Old Inns in Western North Carolina” tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at the Polk County Library. The Thermal Belt Health Fair is Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p m. at the Episcopal (Continued On Back Page) VFW Meets Tuesday To Elect Officers The VFW Post 9116 will meet Tuesday, April 7th at 7:30 p m. in the Columbus Town Hall. Election of officers for 1981-82 will be held. The Ladies Auxiliary will meet at the same time and place. Green Creek PTA Meets Thursday The Green Creek PTA will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at the school. Mrs. Zmick’s 2nd and 3rd grade class will present the program. Mill Spring 4-H Club Organizational Meeting There will be an organizational meeting of the Mill Spring 4-H Club Tuesday, April 7th at 6:30 p.m. at the Wheat Creek Church on Pea Ridge Road, Anyone ages 9 — 19 may join. Golf Monday Tryon in 5 team match at Maggie Valley (2 p.m.) Thursday Polk Central is host to Tryon and Christ School at Lake Lure (1:30) Warren Carson Named Dean Warren Carson. Jr. Effective Spring Quarter, 1981, Warren Carson, Jr. has been named to the position of Academic Dean at Rutledge College in Spartanburg. Carson joined the Rutledge College faculty in July, 1980, and orior to this appointment he served as Head of the English Department. Included in his new duties as Dean are the Academic programs at the college and faculty supervisor. Dean Carson assumed his new duties on April 1. He is a native of Tryon, a graduate of Tryon High School, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Atlanta University. He resides in Tryon where he is active in numerous community, church, and civic affairs. Girls Track Wednesday Tryon and Polk Central in Con ference meet at Edneyville To Visit N. C. School of Science and Mathematics Carole Michele Marsh of Tryon High School has been selected to visit the campus of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in early April. She is one of the three hundred high school sophomores who were selected by the School’s Admission Committee from almost seven hundred nominees. From this group of three hundred, one-hundred fifty boys and girls will be selected for admission to the School in September as juniors. The purpose of the campus visit is to allow prospective students and parents to meet and talk with the School’s faculty, to tour the facilities, and to get acquainted with the Durham community. Each nominee will be given a 30 minute interview as part of the selection process. The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics is a state-wide state supported, resi dential high school for students gifted and talented in science and mathematics. Ladies Blue Ridge Golf Association Dot Girardaeu, Margaret Hannon, Lucille Housh and Phyllis Prout attended the opening meeting of the Blue Ridge Golf Association at Glen Cannon in Brevard Following the meeting golf was enjoyed. Margaret Hannon won low gross for 18 holes.
