Wednesday was another beautiful spring day. Tuesday night was the first home night game for Tryon High School baseball team. Unfortunately they lost 9-1 to Edneyville. Rejecting pleas for leniency, a New York judge Brenda Soloff sentenced former Yippie Abbie Hoffman to three years in prison for a $36,000 drug sale in 1973. There has been a lot of favorable comment on the appearance of Cowan’s Hardware, Cowan's Supermarket and Polk Insurance. The fronts of their buildings are certainly attractive. We saw Charles Cowan out Wednesday morning watering the azaleas that have been place in front of his building. The improvement of store buildings and the plantings along the railroad bank and at the depot have certainly made the downtown Tryon area a much prettier place. Tryon Band Boosters Meet Monday The Tryon Band Boosters will meet Monday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the band room. Close Call Most of us have had a close call at one time or another, but there was one Tuesday about 9:15 a.m. that most of us don’t want. A Duke Power Bucket Truck was answering a call on an outage at Mill Spring and was following be hind a loaded Metromont Cement Truck. When the trucks reached the Midway straight stretch the Duke Power truck driven by Joe Williams pulled out to pass the Metromont truck as nothing was in sight. As the Duke truck pulled ahead of the Metromont Truck, a car pulled out of side road without looking and headed toward the two trucks. Joe Williams pulled the Duke truck to the right and the Metromont truck driven by Richard Hyder saw what was happening and pulled over as far as he could without going off the road, because if he had gone off the road the top heavy cement truck would probably overturned. The three vehicles passed each other on a two-lane road with no inches to spare. The only damage was a slight dent and scratched paint on the Duke truck and some damage to the Metromont truck tire. Some excellent driving by the drivers of the two trucks kept a serious accident from occurring. The car which caused all the trouble, kept on going. Meets Tonight Tryon Valley Chapter 411 will meet Thurs.,(tonight) at 6 p.m. a the Lodge Hall. Louise Payton, W. M., Betty Thompson, Sec.
