To Honor
Hugh Bradey
The Polk County mail patrons
who got their mail on Rt. 1,
Landrum for the past 15 years,
are honoring Hugh Bradey, their
former mail carrier. Mr.
Bradey will be guest of honor at
an Appreciation Dinner on
Friday, April 24th.
All friends and former patrons
of Rt. 1, Landrum are invited to
bring a covered dish and come to
the Hickory Grove-Pacolet Hills
Community Building at 6:30 p m.
on the 24th. Tea and Coffee will be
furnished.

at Edwards Air Force Base in

Former heavyweight boxing
champion, Joe Louis, 66, died
Sunday in Las Vegas, Nev. from
a heart attack The "Brown
Bomber” was one of the greatest
fighters of all time.
Tom Watson won the Masters
Sunday with a 2-stroke margin
over Jack Nicklaus and Johnny
Miller.
The Health Fair Friday and
Saturday had great participation.
Tryon Day was very
successful. About 200 people took
the tours organized by Ruth Ann
Arledge and James Payne. The
dedication services were well
attended and a large crowd
attended the street dance at the
Depot that night. Everyone
seemed to have a good time

Eargle Presented
Check And Plaque
The Tri-County Softball League
President Dean Smith presented
C. M. Eargle a check for $1,040
from the Softball League to help
with the debt on the new fence
and lighting. Mr. Eargle is
chairman of the Harmon Field
Commission. The check was
possible due to the fact that the
umpires and scorekeepers gave
their services during the Early
Bird Softball Tournament.
The plaque presented to Mr.
Eargle read: "To The Harmon
Field Commission in
appreciation for their
outstanding support for
recreation facilities in the area,
(signed) Tri-County Softball
League”

A series of Spiritual Life
Commitment Services will be
conducted April 15, 16, 17, and 19
by the First Baptist Church of
Tryon. The Wednesday evening
service, led by the Rev. T. E.
Dougherty, will begin at 7:00
p.m Dr. Claude U. Broach will
conduct a Lord's Supper Service
Thursday evening at 7:30. A
Service of Tenebrae will be
presented by the choir on Friday
at 7:30 p.m.
Easter Sunday will be observed
with a Sunrise Service at 8:00 in
the Portia Farwell Memorial
Garden, a breakfast at 8:30 in the
Church Fellowship Hall, Sunday
School at 9:45 and worhsip at 11
o'clock.
The public is invited.
