Weather Tuesday: high 79, low

Millions of Americans watched
the space shuttle, Columbia,
glide to a safe landing at
Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.
Tuesday. The Columbia was the
first vehicle ever to leave the
Earth under rocket power and
return on the wings of an aircraft.
Tonight at 8 p.m. the Tryon
Kiwanis Club travelogue,
"Byways of France" is at the
Fine Arts Center.
The dinner scheduled for
tonight at St. Luke's CME Church
has been postponed.
There are many special church
services this week.
The Tryon Bird and Nature
Club will meet today (Thurs.) at
10 a.m. at the Tryon United
Methodist Church. Visitors are
welcome.
The Tryon Bird and Nature
Club will have a wildflower walk
Saturday in the Brushy Ridge
area. The walk will start at 1:30
p.m. at the Congregational
Church parking lot, where cars
will be pooled for a drive up
Hogback Road to the Ridge.
The 4-H Barbeque Chicken
Supper is April 24th at 7:30 p.m.

In Tryon Tues.

Magazine were in Tryon
Tuesday. They stated that PM
Magazine on May 11th will
feature Tryon.
Fire Destroys House
Assistant Fire Chief Geoffrey
Tennent of Columbus said
Monday that a fire of suspicious
orgin destroyed a house and two
barns belonging to Paul Turner in
Green River Cove during the
afternoon.
A number of acres of brush and
timberland were burned. No one
was in residence at the house at
the time of the fire. Turner is a
Georgia resident who used the
place on camping trips. —

Killed By
Falling Tree
D. L. Arrowood of Saluda was
killed Wednesday morning when
a tree fell on him. Mr. Arrowood
was cutting a tree near the office
of Dr. A. T. Pagter, Jr. on
Wilderness Road.

Sunrise Service
The Beulah Baptist Church will
have a Sunrise Service Sunday on
the hill behind the church Sun.,
April 19th. Breakfast will follow
in the Fellowship Hall of the
Church.
Selected For
Governor’s School
Vernon L. Dusenbury,
Superintendent of the Tryon City
Schools has received notification
that two members of the junior
class at Tryon High School have
been selected to attend the 1981
session of the Governor's School
of North Carolina. This annual
program is designed to provide
academic enrichment for the
exceptional students throughout
the State of North Carolina.
Martha Dye
Miss Martha Dye, the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Minter of
Tryon, has been selected to
attend the East Campus of the
Governor's School which is
located at St. Andrews
Presbyterian College in
Laurinburg, N. C. Miss Dye's
area of concentration will be the
field of natural science. In
addition to her outstanding
academic record at Tryon High

Burns Mortgage
On Sunday, April Sth, Grace
Baptist Church had their
mortgage burning for their new
Family Life Center. This building
was errected this past summer
for use by the church and its
ministries. Work will be started
on the inside to build locker
rooms and other needed space.
Easter Services
The Easter services at the
Tryon Congregational Church
will include a Sunrise Service at
7:30 a.m. in the church Memorial
Garden, with a meditation by the
Rev. Irving Stubbs The minister,
the Rev. Richard L. Jackson, will
preach on “Our Resurrection
Faith" at the 11:00 a.m. service.
Music will be provided by the
chancel and bell choirs.
New Arrival
Mr. and Mrs Scott Sain of
Green Creek are parents of a
daughter, Julie Rae, born April
8th at Mary Black Hospital in
Spartanburg. She has two
brothers, Jason who is 5 years old
and John who is 3 years old.
Maternal grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. J. T. Sheehan of Green
Creek and the paternal
grandparents are Mr and Mrs.
George Sain of Mill Spring.
Maternal great-grandparents are
Mrs. Walker Sheehan and Mr.
and Mrs. Curtis Fagan all of
Green Creek.
