Socialist Francois Mitterrand defeated President Valery Giscard d'Estaing in Sunday’s French presidential election, ending 23 years of conservative government. A giant sinkhole — already several hundred feet wide after swallowing a three-bedroom bungalow, half a swimming pool and six Porsches — nibbled away in Winter Park, Fla. The Greenville News recently had a special section on music. On the cover was a picture of Phil and Gaye Johnson of Green Creek and there was also a story by Lynne Lucas and photos by Fred Rollison in the center of the section. C., do a revival of the Cornbread and Sweetniilk shows as ‘they used to do' on old time Continued On Back Page Move Here Mr. and Mrs. John Lenox, formerly of Shaker Heights, Ohio have bought the former Hart Gibson Foster house in the hunting Country from William Kessler. Mr. and Mrs Lenox are both from Minnesota. Mr. Lenox is from Minneapolis and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and Harvard AMP. He is building a computerized machinery plant at Shelby for the Acme-Cleveland Co. and will retire in June. Mrs. Lenox is the former Mary Dougherty of Austin, Minn. She is a graduate of Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass. Mr. and Mrs Lenox have two married daughters, Anne Lenox Sersich and Mary Lenox Oussayef both of Boston, Mass. They have three grandchildren. Mrs. Lenox enjoys golf and gardening while Mr. Lenox likes to do wood working and play golf. They are Episcopalians. Polk Striders Are First Polk County Striders Tom Foster and Carolyn Roff competed in the sixth annual Clean Air Road Races May 9 held in the vicinity of Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa. Carolyn Roff was the first woman to finish the 5 mile race. Her winning time was 34:42. Tom Foster completed the 13.1 mile half marathon in 1:22.20. He came in first in his age group and twelfth overall. Children On TV This Saturday A group of O.P. Earle students will be featured on TV Saturday at 7:30 a.m. on the program. "Kid Sizzle” on Channel7. Robin Little will interview the students who wrote the school play, "Behind the Third Tree." and also other students who participated in the play.
