John Janulis of Tryon qualified for the Western Regional Track meet when he was third in the 3200 meter run at Hendersonville Friday. The event was won by Asheville with 76 points. Tryon was 11th with 18 points and Polk Central was 17th with 8 points. The hearings on the Tryon annexation continue tonight at the Town Hall at 7 p m The first hearing was last night and they will be held each evening through Friday night. Everyone reports that the Rotary Community Chorus, “Spring Fever" was excellent and very enjoyable. A large crowd attended the Polk County Jaycees Antique Auto Show at Harmon Field Sunday. Harmon Field was a busy place Sunday. Singing Sunday The Rock of Ages Gospel Singers and others will sing at the New Testament Church of God on Sunday, May 24th at 7 p.m. Tryon P.T.A. Meets Thursday The Tryon PTA will meet Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Tryon Elementary School auditorium. The program will be music by the Tryon School Band. Election of officers for 1981-82 will be held. Mill Spring PTA Meets Thursday Mill Spring School PTA will meet Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. This will be the last meeting for the 1980-81 school year Officers will be elected for the 1981-82 school year. The program will be Mrs. Lynch’s 2-3 grade class, a musical, “Elephants, Clowns and Circus Sounds." Art Exhibit Landrum Friends of the Arts continues to sponsor art exhibits in the Landrum Branch Library. Lt present, the works of John J. Smith, E Brookwood Dr., Landrum are on display for a period of two weeks. Mr. Smith, a Landrum native and a graduate of Landrum High School, is retired from the textile industry, having been employed as a draftsman by Jonathan Logan. From early childhood, he enjoyed drawing wildlife and today finds painting his chief hobby, though he considers himself a dilettante. Bass To Speak At Mens Garden Club The Tryon Mens Garden Club will meet in the Conference Room at NCNB at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21. Reagan Ammons, Polk County Agriculture Agent will introduce Larry Bass, Horticultural Specialist at N. C. State who will present a discussion on vegetable gardening, transplantings, etc. There will be an open discussion with questions and answers after Mr. Bass concludes his talk. — Reporter A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. John Knox of Columbus are parents of a daughter, Elizabeth Renea, born May 15th at St. Luke's Hospital. C. and the mater grandparents are Mr and Mrs. Charles Bridgman also of Chapin. $83,953.32 In Sales Tax For Polk The first quarter of 1981 found $83,953.32 being returned to Polk County for the 1% local sales tax. This amount was distributed on a per capita basis as follows: Polk County $66,189.73; Columbus $4,544.54; Saluda $2,896.75 and Tryon $10,322.30.
