The Tryon Town Council held
meetings on the annexation
question every night last week.
Now the Council will gather all
the data together, decide what
areas that want to annex, if
any, and prepare a written
report. This report will be
available for public inspection
and another public hearing will
be scheduled
Tuesday at 2:30 pm. there will
be a groundbreaking for the Oak
Hall Condominiums and
everyone is invited These will be
townhouse condominiums. The
architect is Collins and
Krownsdadt of Silver Springs,
Maryland with Ralph Sherer as
Supervising architect. The
contractor is Poinsett
Construction of Greenville, S. C.
President Reagan proposed
Thursday that congressional
leaders of both parties meet with
his representative “to launch a
bipartisan effort to save Social
Security."
The U. S. financed and helped
train a secret force of
mercenaries who went into Laos
earlier this month to see if
Americans were imprisoned

Sport Awards Given
At Polk Central
The Polk Central All-Sports
Awards Banquet was held
Thursday night at the school.
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Arledge
and Scott Arledge were presented
a plaque from the Volleyball
team in memory of Lisa Arledge
who died as a result of injuries
received in an automobile wreck.
Lisa’s No 10 jersey was retired
and the plaque had the names of
her teammates and a large
picture of Lisa.

Delegates for the 1981 session
of the American Legion Auxiliary

States have been announced by
the Thermal Belt Business and
Professional Women's Club

Girls' State are Mary Ruth

The delegate to Tar Heel Girls'
State is Karen Kimberly Rindge,

Girls State is a six-day
intensive workshop in state
government and politics.
Delegates participate in a variety
of activities designed to improve
their awareness and
understanding of the
organization and operation of
state government and politics.
The objective of Girls' State is to
improve citizenship for present
and future generations
Delegates are chosen for their
outstanding character,
leadership ability and scholastic
achievements Candidates must
be members of the rising senior
class in order to qualify
Palmetto Girls' State will be
held June 8 — 14 on the campus of
the University of South Carolina
