Mrs. Cooley Retires
Mrs. Geraldine High Cooley
las retired from teaching school,
after 33‘i years, of which 31
years were spent at the Mill
Spring School.
A native of Spartanburg
County, she is a graduate of
Boiling Springs High School and
received her AB degree from
Asheville College in 1943. She did
graduate work at Wofford
College.
Mrs. Cooley was named the
Mill Spring Teacher of the Year
for 1980-81 and was honored this
year by the students who gave
her a plaque and planted a tree at
the school in her honor.
Mill Spring Principal Alan
Peoples stated that Mrs. Cooley
was loved by her students and
other school personnel. A fifth
grade teacher, she taught
English to the 4th, Sth and Sth
grade students this past year
Mr Peoples said that she was an
excellent teacher and that the
school would miss her ability and
spirit.
The entire game will offer

Donkey Softball
Friday At 8 P.M.

Donkey Softball is coming to
Green Creek Ball Field on June
19th at 8:00 p.m. The Green Creek
Ruritan is sponsoring the game.
Fans will be absolutely delighted
as the donkeys of Tarheel Donkey
Ball Co. of Denver, N. C. attempt
to make softball as difficult as
possible for the players.
Appearing at the game will be
Easy Rider who is billed as
America’s Buckingist Donkey.
After hundreds of attempts, Easy
Rider still has not had anyone to
ride him.
Bob McKinley, nationally
famous rodeo clown will also be
appearing with a hilarious half-
time show featuring comedy

Mrs. Feagan Retires
At Stearns School
Catherine W. Feagan, (Mrs.
Charlie) of Columbus has retired
from Stearns School after 30
years of teaching. She teaches
the fifth grade.
Mrs. Feagan, the former
Catherine Walker of Mill Spring,
taught at Mill Spring Elementary
1946-47; Stearns School 1947-52
and Stearns School 1958-81. She
received her degree at Western
Carolina Teachers College in 1942
and has done further study at
Wofford, Gardner-Webb,
Western Carolina and
Appalachian.
Mrs. Feagan was named the
1981 Polk County Teacher of the
Year. Over the years she has
special projects and plays for
pupils in her grade. She has
taught her three sons and two of
her grandchildren.
Mrs. Feagan is active in the
Columbus Baptist Church and in
community affairs.

The 4th annual Peach Festival
Road Race will be held Saturday.
July 18th at Gaffney, S. C The
Fun run is at 8:10a.m. ; 5,000 and
10,000 meter race at 8 a m
