"The Big Boom” rocked parts of the Carolinas Wednesday, leaving aviation and geological officials wondering what the noise was and where it came from. Thursday's Spartanburg Herald had an article about Leroy Prince of Landrum being reunited with his daugliter, Judy Prindle of Kingston, N.Y. after 39 years. The Tryon Little Theater will hold auditions for its October production, "The Belle of Amherst”, on Tuesday. June 30 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. "Belle” is a one-person play, calling for an actress between the ages of 35 and 50. Dean Campbell will direct. A copy of the play is available from the Fine Arts Center office. Tryon Postmaster Bill Barham has announced that there is a new service available at the Tryon Post Office. “Express Mail” offers guaranteed delivery by 3 p.m. the next day. The price also includes $500 in insurance coverage. The price varies according to weight and distance. Phillips — Dental Hygiene — was named to the Dean's List for the spring quarter at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Institute. Students must have a minimum 3.5 quality point average and be recommended by their department chairman. Major Cooper L. Wright, son of Mr and Mrs. Robert H. Wright of Tryon, recently graduated from the U. S. Army Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He is a graduate of U. S. Military Academy at West Point, N. Y., has a C.E. degree from Purdue University and has been stationed in Germany, Vietnam and Korea. After touring the west with his family Major Wright will report to Ft. Knox, Ky. in July. Richard Jackson To Be Honored The Board of Deacons of the Tryon Congregational Church of Christ has designated a reception and luncheon Sunday, June 28th to honor the Rev. Richard L. Jackson on the 40th anniversary of his ordination into the Christian ministry (June 29, 1941). He and Dorothy were married shortly before that so this is a double celebration for them. Mr. Jackson's first assignment, beginning July 1, 1941, was in Waverly, Va., where he served as pastor of three rural churches. In 1946, after a period of study of the Chinese culture and language at Yale University Graduate School, the Jacksons went as missionaries to Shaowu, in Fukien provence, South China. Church between Pea Ridge and Silver Creek. A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hutchins of Campobello, S C. are parents of a son, Marvin Glen Hutchins, Jr., born June 22nd at St. Luke's Hospital. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hutchins of Campobello. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Gaither Jackson of Coopers Gap. Mrs. Fred M. Schairer and daughter, Jane, have returned to Tryon from visiting friends in the Chicago area Jane attended the graduation and joined in the festivites of her old high school class in Lombard. Singing At Midway Baptist The Victory Gospel Singers of Greensboro will sing Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service at Midway Baptist Church. Rev. Wesley Price, pastor of the Midway Church was a member of The Victory Gospel Singers prior to accepting the pastorate at Midway.
