three other workers were injured
in the accident, which occured at
Cox Farms in Reidville.

Trustees Scholar
COLUMBIA, s c. - A female
student from Spartanburg Day
School. Susanne Engels of Tryon
has been nominated as a
Columbia College Trustees
Scholar because of outstanding
academic achievement.
Ms. Engels has received a
Trustees Scholar Certificate of
Merit which recognizes,
according to Columbia College
President Ralph T. Mirse,
"outstanding individual ability
and effort " The Certificate of
Merit is one of the highest honors
that Columbia College bestows on
high school juniors.
As a Columbia College
Trustees Scholar, she is now
eligible to compete for the
Trustees Scholarship Award, a
$500 per year scholarship based
on academic achievement
Columbia College, a four year
liberal arts college, is South
Carolina's only private church-
affiliated college for women. It
was founded by the United
Methodist Church in 1854

Here From Mexico
Miss Ulrike Burk of Mexico
City. Mexico is in Tryon with
Andrea and Jocelyn Flynn of
Boston, Mass, who are visiting
members of the Moore, Brady
and Flynn families.
Miss Burk is staying with the
family of Mr. and Mrs. Shields
Flynn and Andrea and Jocelyn in
Boston for two months to improve
her English. Her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Jochen Burk are friends
of the Flynns.
The Burk family has been in
Mexico for five years and before
that in Brazil for seven years.
The Burks are from Germany
and return home every other
year. Mr. Burk is a mechanical
engineer.

“Summerfest" a festival for
students, potential students and
faculty was held at losthermal's
"Polk County Campus" Monday
