Softball Winners
The Tri-County Softball League
was the host of the District 9 ASA
Softball Playoffs at Harmon
Field. Out of the six divisions,
three were won by teams from
the local league.
Class B Women was won by the
Rockettes of Tryon and they will
go to the State Playoffs Sept. 3 —
7at Landis.
Class C Women was won by
Durham Construction of Tryon
and they will go to the State
Playoffs at Taylorsville Sept. 3 —
7.
Class B Men was won by Reid
Truck Stop of Saluda and they
will play in the State Playoffs
Sept. 3 — 7 at a site to be
announced.
Class C Men and Toney of
Forest City who will play Sept. 3
— 7 at Wilmington.
Industrical Class A was won by
Master Craft of Spindale. They
will play Aug. 6 —9 at Sanford.
The Church League was won by
Crest View of Forest City. They
will play Sept. 3 — 7 in the state
playoffs at Landis.

The Polk Central Class of 1971
will hold its 10th class reunion
Saturday, Aug. 8th at The
Regency Inn, 1-85 and Boiling
Springs Road, Spartanburg from

Is Kiwanis Speaker
The Tryon Kiwanis Club,
meeting Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at
Pacolet River Plantation, will
hear John O’Connor speak on
“Implications of Violent Family
Conflicts in Police Work."
Born in New York City, he was
educated in Manhattan College
and John Jay College of Criminal
Justice. Continuing his interest in
law enforcement he progressed
from patrolman to commanding
officer. Fourth Patrol Division
New York City Police
Department. He became Chief of
Police in Syracuse, N. Y. in 1967
and in 1980 was made Executive
Director, New York State Joint
Legislative Committee on Crime,
Its Causes, Control and Effect on
Society. Mr. O'Connor has
worked in many fields related to
criminal justice.
Richard Landis is in charge of
the program.

reported that John W. Smith,
Bishop Road, Landrum had theft
of jewelry and TV's worth $750.
Senior League
Tourney Results
The Winston-Salem Senior
League baseball team forced
their way to the finals Friday
when they won two games
Thursday. They defeated
Anson County 1 to 0 and
then edged Roanoke Rapids 15 to
14 in a game that was called after
the 6th inning due to the 11 p.m.
curfew.
The winner of Friday’s game
will go to Winston-Salem Tuesday
for the Division Tournament. The
Division will have the winner of
North Carolina, South Carolina,
Virginia and West Virginia.
Nine Arrested
In Drug Raids
Friday morning at 7 o’clock. 30
law enforcement officer arrested
9 persons in Polk Rutherford and
Spartanburg counties for having
marijuana, cocaine and
methaqualone for sale.
Sheriff Boyce Carswell said
Friday morning that more
arrests were expected. At that
time 8 vehicles had been seized in
the three-county operation. In
