Revival
The New Testament Church of
God will hold revival services
Aug 17 — 21 at 7:30 each night.
The Rev. James Staley will be the
guest speaker. Elder Clyde
Chambers is the pastor.
Film Thursday
Thursday night at 8 p.m at The
Upstairs, the film "M" by Fritz
Lang will be shown. This was
Lang’s first sound film and is
based on the actual case
involving the murders of young
girls. It was also Peter Lorre’s
first great success as a
psychopathic murderer. This
film is by the director of
Metropolis. Date of fim, 1931
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jennings
and children Stephen and Stacie
of Landrum attended the Winston
Title Series Points Race at
Piedmont Dragway in
Greensboro Sunday where Mr.
Jennings won first place in Super
Stock IE in his 1969 Camero.
Busy Night For
Town Council
The Tryon Town Council met
Monday night at the Town Hall.
The Town Council appointed a
new Policy Board for the
Community Development
program at the recommendation
of Harold Cannon the
Administrator. Appointed were
Charles Lankford, Charles Lott
and Clarence Henson. They will
review applications, review bids,
inspect housing and give
technical assistance to the
Administrator.
Mayor Ken Tucker presented a
Second year Safety Award from
the N. C Department of Labor
for the Town's “outstanding
safety record."
The Board received compaints
about the noise of Buffy’s
Restaurant and Lounge on
Wednesday nights. The matter
was referred to the Police
Department.
The Board approved a request
by the Town Attorney. Vance
McCown to tear down an
abandoned house on Livingston
Street at the property owner's
request.
The Board also received a
report from the Town Manager
on the five houses that have gone
through the condemnation
procedures
The Board received a request
from Chip Kessler for
consideration of an Inn at the
Hedrick House. The matter will
have a public notice and a public

General Meeting
For School Personnel
There will be a General
Meeting of all Polk County
Principals, Teachers, Aides, and
Secretaries at Mill Spring School
on Friday, August 14, at 9 a.m.
This will be the first day of the
1981-82 school year. All Polk
County Students will report on
Thursday, August 20. This will be
a full day and lunch will be
served.

Dear Seth:
Another year has come around
mighty quickly it seems to me —
seems like I’m sending you an
annual renewal about every six
months!
I like the way the letters tend to
clarify the news, and of course I
enjoy 40 Years Ago now as much
as I always enjoyed 20 Years Ago
columns!
So many of the people who
mean Tryon for me have passed
away.
