President Reagan, declaring
he was ending a half-century of
excessive government growth,
signed into law Thursday the
largest package of tax and
spending cuts in U. S. history.
The Tryon Tigers elected
Jimmy Clement. Todd Constance
and Joey Henson as their football
captains Thursday afternoon.
The Town of Columbus has
declared a water emergency. All
non-essential use of water is
banned. Car washing, water for
swimming pools, watering the
lawn, etc. is prohibited until there
is enough rain to improve the
water supply.
Caton Dedmondt has resigned
from the Columbus Town Council
effective August 31st. Mr.
Dedmondt still has two years to
serve on his term. He stated
Friday morning that he had
enjoyed serving the Town of
Columbus for the past four years.
He said that he was stepping
down because of personal and
health reasons.

Commissioners meet tonight at 7
o'clock at Mill Spring School.

Football Schedule
Football Coach Ken Bromley
has been practicing 29 boys
getting ready for the 1981 football
season. Coach Brumley said that
the team is young and
inexperienced.
He stated that the squad has
better size, but are not quite as
fast as last year. There is more
depth in the backfield, but little
depth on the offensive line. Coach
Brumley said that the defensive
line has good size with the tackles
weighing about 190 pounds and
the ends about 200 pounds. He
said that Thad Davis is the only
linebacker with experience and
the secondary lacks experience.
Coach Brumley said the boys are
working hard and will be ready
for Chesnee on Sept. 4th. The
schedule is as follows:

in the Heart Tennis Round Robin

Corpening and Scott Wray.

Football Schedule
Coach Elmo Neal has his work
cut out for him this season at
Tryon High School. After an
absence from coaching for
several years, Coach Neal faces
his greatest challenge. Last
year’s team was 0-9 and most of
the players returning have little
experience. Twenty-four boys
have been working under Mr.
Neal getting ready for the opener
Sept. 4th at Bessemer City. The
Tigers play their first five games
away from home and then have
five home games. The schedule is
