The Rutherford County

has filed a petition to take legal
custody of Siamese twin girls
born to a Forest City couple last
year, saying the parents have
refused to arrange regular
medical care for the babies.

A New Arrival
Mr. and Mrs. Terry Burns of
Landrum are parents of a son,
Christopher David, born August
18th at Mary Black Hospital in
Spartanburg. He has a brother,
Matthew, age 3.
The maternal grandparents
are Mr and Mrs. Donald
Becknell and the paternal
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
Woodrow Burns, all of Landrum.
School Today
The new school year begins
today at Tryon Elementary
School at 8:30 a m. and the day
ends at 3 p m.
Dr. Donald Jones, the new
principal, will speak to the
student body at an assembly at
9:50 in the auditorium Parents
are invited as long as seats are
available.
A coffee hour for parents to
meet Dr. Jones will be held in the
conference room after the
assembly from 10:30 a m until 11
am
Transfer students enrolling at
the school for the first time
should report to the principal's
office for class assignment.
Storyhour
Toddler Workshop Teacher Pat
Taylor will be the guest
storyteller today at the Landrum
Branch Library. Mrs Taylor will
use the book "Peter's Pockets"
and other entertainment for
Storyhour from 4:30 until 5:00 for
boys and girls ages 3 and up

Home Delivery
An additional service of the
Spartanburg County Public
Library is the Dial-a-Book Home
Delivery made available to
persons in Spartanburg County
who because of any physical,
mental, or sensory disability are
unable to use the main library,
branches or bookmobiles. This is
a free service and may be
requested by dialing the
Landrum Branch Library, 457-
2485, or the nearest Library to
you. After you have requested
this service, once a month a
library staff member will contact
you about the selection and
delivery of books to your home.

Tom Burrell defeated Jerry
Burns 1-up on the 19th hole to win
the Tryon County Club
Championship
Walt Schweder won the
consolation by beating Guy

Concert
The Farnsworth Sisters of
Prince Road, Landrum will give
a vocal concert tonight
(Thursday) at 7:30 at the Case
Bros. Music House Auditorium on
Pine Street in Spartanburg. They
will present Classical and
Broadway music. There is no
admission.
Green Fees
Going Up
Effective September 1st the
Golfing Green Fees at the Tryon
County club are going up. The
fees on week days will be
increased from $5 to $6 and on
weekends and holidays from $6 to
$7 per person.
Saluda Reunion
The Saluda High Schoo) Classes
of 1936, 1937 and 1938 will hold a
reunion Saturday night at The
Cedars in Hendersonville.
