In a new drive to save
additional billions in 1982, the
Reagan administration is
ordering federal agencies to stick
to leaner budgets proposed by the
president last spring rather than
higher spending ceilings
approved by Congress in July.
Scientists worked Wednesday
to fix a jammed camera platform
on Voyager 2, but said the robot
ship's sweep past Saturn was a
resounding success that revealed
a "kinky" new ringlet and a
peculiar wrinkled moon. The
platform jammed after the ship
swept past the golden ringed
plant, leaving its television
cameras aiming uselessly into
space as it began a five year
journey to Uranus.
Lloyd Isaccs, executive
secretary of the N. C Association
of Educators has resigned to
accept a position to join Horace
Mann Insurance Co. It is believed
that he is resigning due to the
shift in NCAE policy, which
recently announced a new
political stratergy of targeting

Today At 6:30 For
Columbus Council
There will be a special
Columbus Town Council meeting
today at 6:30 p.m. for the purpose
of accepting the resignation of
Councilman Caton Dedmondt and
his replacement.
The Council will also accept the
road right of way in Beechwood

Band Boosters
The Polk Central Patriot Band
Boosters will meet on Tuesday,
Sept. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Band
Room. All parents of band
students are requested to attend.
President Roger Wilson said,
“with the budget cuts we have a
lot of work to do this year.”

Mr and Mrs. Gregory Bertelsen
of Tryon are parents of a
daughter, Sarah Kathleen, born
August 24th at St. Luke’s
Hospital.
The maternal grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. William
Ross of Landrum and the
paternal grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs J. C. Bertelsen of Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla.

Rowena Horne
Is Honored
The S&H Foundation has
awarded a Citizenship Grant to
Camp Carmel, Linville, N. C.
for $2,500. The award was made
at the request and in recognition
of the public service of Rowena
Horne, Rt. 1, Tryon, N. C. Mrs.
Horne has been an employee of
Bigelow, Landrum Plant since
1957. The money will be used to
purchase new equipment.
Camp Carmel is located on 59
acres, five miles south of
Linville The camp is available
for retreats and camping.
Rowena has been involved with
Camp Carmel for a number of
years and worked to raise money
to support the camp.

Hamburger Supper
For Tryon Players
The Tryon Boosters Club is
giving a Hamburger Supper for
the Tryon High School football
players, cheerleaders and their
parents on Thursday, Sept. 3rd
at 7 p.m. at the Big Shed at
Harmon Field.
Declares Dividends
On August, 25, 1981, the Board
of Directors of Public Service
Company of North Carolina,
Incorporated declared a regular
quarterly dividend on the
Company's Common Stock of
thirty-five cents per share,
payable on October 1, 1981 to
holders of record Sept. 10, 1981.
This is the 95th consecutive
quarterly dividend on the
Company’s Common Stock.
The Directors also declared
regular quarterly dividends on
all series of the Company's
Cumulative Preferred Stock,
payable October 1,1981 to holders
of record Sept. 10,1981.
