Elwood Martin will be retiring^ from the Town of Tryon on September 3rd after over 21 years of employment service Mr. Martin most recently served for many years as_the Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Plant. He celebrates his 65th birthday today, August 31st. He is a member of the Tryon Presbyterian Church, a Third Degree Mason at the Jeff L Nelson Lodge and also current Vice Commander and past Commander of the American Legion Post 250 Mr. Martin and his wife. Mary, reside at 215 Whitney Avenue in Tryon. They have three grown children. Holland Brady will be present to discuss the proposal Lowry Re-Appointed To Indians Affairs Jim R Lowry of Columbus was sworn in Thursday as a member of the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs. Secretary of State Thad Eure swore in one new member and four others who had been re- elected by local Indian organizations. Installed in a brief ceremony were new member James Sampson. Jr of Fairmont, Tom N. Carter of Clinton, Perlie Simmons Jackobs of Bolton, W. Lonnie Revels of Greensboro in addition to Lowry. Mr Lowry is chairman of the commission, which consists of several government officials and 15 representatives from the Indian community who serve three-year terms.
