The news Tuesday morning
reported that Roy Wilkins had
died. He was president of the
NAACP for many years and was
a leader in the Civil Rights
movements
The Tryon Hounds Horse Show
will be held Friday, Saturday and
Sunday at Harmon Field. The
Saluda Association of Artists and
Craftsmen will be present for the
Country Fair Artists. Craftsmen
present, will be Mildred

Highway Patrolman C. T.
Kennedy investigated a two-
vehicle accident at the
intersection of Hwy 108 and No 9
at Mill Spring which took place
Monday at 4:10 p.m. Trooper
Kennedy said that Johnny Wood
of Gaffney, S. C stopped at the
stop sign on Hwy. 9 and then
pulled out into the path of a 1974
Pontiac driven by James Logan
of Rt. 4, Rutherfordtcn. The
Logan vehicle struck the side of
the '79 Ford driven by Wood and
turned it over. Wood and his
passenger, Clyde Messer of
Gaffney, S. C. were taken to St.
Luke’s Hospital. Both vehicles
were totaled according to
Trooper Kennedy.

The Landrum Fire Department
was called to the home of
Kenneth De) Guercio, Fairview
Farms Tuesday at 7:50 a m. The
fire destroyed the interior of the
den and the rest of the house was
damaged by smoke and heat.
