Wednesday morning was perfect.
It was clear, and the air had a fall
feeling. Everything seemd so
bright and clean.
Mrs. Cleo J. Geer, secretary at
the Polk County Agricultural
Extension office, recently
attended the state meeting of the
North Carolina Association of
Agricultural Extension
Secretaries held in Blowing
Rock. While there she was
elected treasurer of the state
association. She is also incoming
Secretary-Treasurer of the
Western District. Before Polk
County was shifted to the
Western District, Mrs. Geer
served as Treasurer and a
Director of the Southwestern
District of NCAES.
The Town of Tryon has sent out
its Tax Notices. The 2% discount
will continue through the month
of September according to Town
Manager Charles Lott.
The Tryon football team will
travel to Morganton tonight for a
game with the North Carolina
School for the Deaf. Kickoff is at
7:30 p.m.
The Tryon Hounds Horse Show
is at Harmon Field Friday,

Lake Lure Lions
Meet Tonight
The Lake Lure Lions Club will
meet tonight at 7:30 at the Lake
Lure Golf Club. The Zone
Chairman of the Forest City
Lions Club will be the guest
speaker.

Sept. 21st
The next visit of the Red Cross
Bloodmobile will be Monday,
Sept. 21 from noon to 5:30 p.m. at
the Episcopal Church Parish
house.
Landrum PTA Drive
Is Underway
The 0. P. Earle PTA has
already started its membership
drive. On the first day of school,
141 joined. The goal this year is
810 members. This year’s theme
is "Reach for the Stars with PTA
and the Muppets.” Each grade
will be represented by a different
Muppet character. A large
display is in the main hall of the
school. The grade sponsoring the
most members and each class
reaching 100% membership will
be treated to a special surprise.

chairman and Martha Anthony is
president.

Meets Monday
The Tryon School Board will
meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the
Tryon High School.
Kickoff For
Youth Group
Kickoff for the Tryon Youth
Group will be Sunday, Sept. 13th
at 7 p.m. at the Tryon
Congregational Church. All area
9-12 graders are invited. Henry
Meares will serve as the youth
coordinator. This will be a cake
cutting event.
The previously announced
Parents Night event has been
postponed to Oct. 4th. If there are
any questions call Mr. Meares at
859-6775.
Chamber Busy
During the month of August the
Tryon Chamber of Commerce
answered 54 inquiries from 17
different states and Canada. Ohio
was the leading state with 8
inquiries. Others came from
South Dakota, New Jersey, New
York, Mass., Pennsylvania,
Conn., Florida, Illinois, Minn.,
Idaho, South Carolina, Indiana,
Arizona, Maryland, Virginia,
Michigan.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Winter
have returned to their home on
Rt. 1, Landrum after spending
their vacation in New Hampshire
and visiting family in New
Jersey.
Mrs. Anne Brady has returned
from Alaska and the west coast to
her home at Morgan Chapel
Village, Columbus.
Rev. 0. L. Robinson of Saluda
is a patient in St. Luke’s Hospital.
