The Postal Rate Commission rejected another request to boost the price of a first-class stamp from 18 cents to 20 cents Thursday, discounting the Postal Service’s claim that new labor Continued On Back Page Water Smells In Columbus Water users of the Town of Columbus began noticing something strange about their water last Thursday Some thought that it smelled and tasted a little like kerosene Upon investigation, the city officials found that the trouble came from White Oak Mountain where a section of the road is being paved. Columbus Water Superintendent Ronnie Pack stated Friday morning that the men at the paving site said that one of the hoses on the truck had burst and some of the spill had gone into the creek. Mr. Pack said that there were crews cleaning up the spill and that the water had been tested by the State and found safe to drink He said that the water plant at Columbus had stopped taking in water until it cleared up. but that there probably would be a slight smell for several days. Donna, were in a jeep on 1-26 pulling a trailer with another car on it The jeep overturned about 2 miles south of Hwy 14 in the westbound land The Landrum Rescue Squad responded to the call at 11:56 p.m Thursday and they took the Mays to Spartanburg General Hospital. Captain Bruce Cogdell of the Landrum Rescue Squad stated Fri. morning that Mrs May was dead on arrival at Spartanburg General Hospital from head injuries. Mr May had back injuries; their two-year-old daughter had a few cuts, and otherwise was all right Wreck A wreck was reported at the intersection of Hwy No 9 and the Chesnee Hwy. Friday morning.
