Knicks Give
Wingo A Tryout
Robert T. Burnett of Old
Greenwich. Conn dropped us a
.me and enclosed a clipping from

Times which stated that the New
York Knicks were giving 33 year
old Harthorne Wingo a try-out.
The 6-foot-S inch forward has
played the last five years in Italy
and Switzerland
In the championship year of
1973 Madison Square Gardens
fans would chant "Win-Go, Win-
Go" urging Coach Red Holzman
to send him into the game. Wingo
remained with the Nicks two
more seasons, before he left to
played in Italy in 1976.

returned to her home in Tryon
after four months in Europe.
Singletary Submits
Resignation To Board
Ron Singletary. Superintendent
to Polk County Schools has
submitted his resignation to the
Polk County School Board The
Board will meet in executive
session Wednesday at 7:30 p m
to consider the resignation Mr
Singletary has asked that the
resignation be made effective
November 1st
Mr. Singletary has been offered
the position of Superintendent
with Jones County Jones County
furnishes the Supt. with a car and
also provides a local supplement
of $3552.
In March of this year he was
appointed Assistant
Superintendent effective April
13th. In June he was named the
interim superintendent effective
August 1st. The Polk County
position of superintendent was
scheduled to be advertised in
December and applications
received until Jan. 31. 1982 The
superintendent was to be named
no later than April 15,1982.
Beverly Stott Is
Homecoming Queen
Miss Beverly Stott, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Stott of Rt.
2, Columbus was crowned Polk
Central High School
Homecoming Queen Friday night
during halftime ceremonies.
Miss Lora Mills, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Mills was
named the runner-up.

has filed for the Columbus Town
Council He is the son of Edwin
and Bonnie Wilson of Lynn He
graduated from Polk Central
High School in 1965 and attended
Spartanburg Technical College
for 2 years He has lived in the
Columbus area for 35 years and is
owner of Columbus Accounting
Service and prior to that worked
as a dealer for Tom’s Foods, Ltd.
He is a member of Green River
Baptist Church
He is married to the former
Wanda Denton and they have
four children. Ricky, who is a
freshman at Polk Central;
Jennifer and Anna who attend
Stearns and Susie Gosnell, a
foster daughter, who is a
sophomore at Polk Central.
Mr. Wilson is a member of the
Columbus Volunteer Fire
Department and has coached a T-
Ball team for the Polk County
Recreation Department for two
years.
$100 Bottle Cap
Ms. Debbie Lester was excited
Friday afternoon at the Pantry in
Tryon when the Coca-Cola she
opened had $100 on the bottle cap.
Lake Lure Lions
The Lake Lure Lions will meet
Thursday at 7:30 p m at the Lake
Lure Municipal Golf Club
meeting room.
