C. 28782 WEDNESDAY, Oct. 7,1981 No official weather report for Monday, but it was a beautiful fall day. Tuesday morning was more of the same. It’s hard to fuss when the weather is so delightful, but the area needs a good rain more than pretty weather. Egyptian president Anwar Sadat was shot three times Tuesday morning and hospital reports stated that he died from his injuries, according to WTYN. He was one of American’s few friends in the middle east. The U. S. Supreme Court opened a new term Monday with Justice Sandra Day O’Connor making her public debut as a working member. A cut in the prime lending rate to 19 percent from 19.5 spread through the banking industry Monday. Monday at 8 p.m. Jim and Tab Flack will give "Ambling and Scrambling on the Appalachian Trail”, plus "Twelve Days on the Rope”, the story of the Flacks’ hike on an Austrian Alps glacier. All proceeds from the program will go to the Tryon Fine Arts Center. The Little Mountain Pottery, the studio of Claude and Elaine Graves is having its 6th annual Continued On Back Page Two Injured In Jeep Wreck Two young men from South Carolina were injured in a jeep accident near Comoco Farm early Sunday morning. Taken to St. Luke’s Hospital were Joel Dean Foster, 19 of Pauline, S. C. and Warren Joe Nichols, 18, of Spartanburg. Both young men were admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital where they were reported to be in stable condition Tuesday morning. Patrolman Dan Moran investigated the accident. Saving Soup Labels The 0. P. Earle Elementary School PTA is saving Campbell soup labels again this year. From now until March 1, 1982 the PTA will collect labels from Campbell’s soups, beans, tomato juice, V-8, Swanson canned foods and Franco-American products. Labels may be sent by the students to the school, give them to Barbara Siegfried or leave them at the Landrum Insurance Agency or the Tryon Daily Bulletin. Quilt Show The Third Annual Quilt Show is being held in the Stoney Mtn. Activity Center in Henderson County on Oct. 9, 10 and 11. It is sponsored by Hendersonville Threadcraft Guild and Henderson County Recreation Dept. The hours are 2 to 6p.m on the 9th; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the 10th and 1 to 5 p.m. on the llth. Short Meeting For Tryon School Bd. The Tryon School Board met 5, October, 1981, with Mr. Corbett absent. Architect Mike Brannon reported on the status of the auditorium rennovations. The old ceiling has been lowered, and they are beginning work on the roof. He also reviewed the plans for further work. These included modernizing the plumbing, taking down some partitions and putting up new ones. The work is expected to be done in 6 weeks. Painting the fire escape is also desirable. Mr. Scoggins suggested that the stone wall on left of the auditorium be removed and the window wells and landscape be cleaned up. — League of Women Voters Observer Homecoming Homecoming will be observed at the Landrum-Pentecostal Holiness Church, Sunday, Oct. llth. Lunch will be after worship services and singing will begin at 2:30. Rev. Bill Branch is the pastor. In the 3.0 mile Spears Invitational run held at Swannanoa recently Carolyn Roff of Tryon was second in the girls event. Amy Venturella of Owen High finished first in the field of 24 in a time of 21:38, three sounds ahead of Roff. April Warren of Reynolds took third place while Owen teammates Lynn Rhymer and Nan Barker took the fourth and fith spots. Price 10c Per Copy Injured In Wreck William C. Constance of Landrum, S. C. was injured in an automobile accident Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. on I-26. Mr. Constance, a diebetic, was driving west about .3 mile west of the Hwy. 108 bridge when his car left the road, went over the bank and hit a tree, out of sight from the road Mr. Constance, who apparently went into adiabetic shock, causinghim to leave the road, managed to crawl out of the car and back to the side of the highway where he was seen by a trucker. The Polk County Ambulance was dispatched to the scene and he was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was being treated for insulin shock and facial injuries. About $700 damage was done to his ’73 Chevrolet. Landrum Boosters Meet Monday The Landrum Athletic Booster Club will meet Monday at 8 p.m. in the conference room at the high school gym There will be a short business meeting led by Joe Humphries followed by TV tapes. Coach Steve Coley will do a commentary on the tapes of the Chesnee, Blue Ridge. Tryon and Christ Church games All parents and friends of Landrum football players are invited. 4:30 Instead Of 5 P.M.
