All members are invited. ar e Polk Central Nominations For Morehead Award Polk Central has nominated three students for the Morehead Award at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Nominated for County Competition are: Tawana Rickman The answer to a coach’s prayer is Tawana Rickman, a three- letterman in softball (best hitter award), basketball, and volleyball. Tawana was a junior marshal, Miss Polk Central and the winner of the Carolina Book Award in English and Social Studies. An AFS host sister to Tamsen Fread of Australia, Tawana is interested in studying International Relations, journalism and languages. She is An daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A1 len Rickman of Mill Spring. Continued On Back Page Jim Rutledge Is Kiwanis Speaker The Tryon Kiwanis Club will meet Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. The guest speaker will be Jim Rutledge. A native of Johnstown, Pa., he is a graduate of Juniata College, Huntingdon, Pa. in 1947 and with a B.S. Business Administration with Accounting as a major. A veteran of World War II, he retired as Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves in 1970. He was with a Public Accounting firm as an accountant for three years before joining Milliken in 1956. He has developed and conducted in-company training programs for all levels of management and has served as a Dale Carneige Instructor. He has written a book entitled, “Effective Communication One to One-One to a Bunch.” He has taught at Spartanburg Tech and Spartanburg Methodist. Mr Rutledge who was named “Man of the Year” in recognition of his achievements has served as president of the Tryon Kiwanis Clu P b, member of the Tryon School Board, president of the Tryon Boosters Club Chairman nf the Polk County Republican Party' and president of the Polk County Little League.
