The Egyptian Interior Ministry said Monday police have orders "to shoot instantly anyone who disturbs the stability and security of Egyptians.” President Reagan said Monday the United States will not deal with the Palestine Liberation Organization until the PLO recognizes Israel’s right to exist. Former President Jimmy Carter, in a move that put him at odds with many Democratic Party leaders, Monday endorsed President Reagan’s proposal to sell sophisticated radar planes and other advanced aircraft equipment to Saudi Arabia. We think the Polk County School Board made a wise decision in naming former Supt. David A Cromer to serve as interim superintendent until new superintendent could be named. Mr. Cromer is familiar with the system and doesn't want the job. Mr Cromer has agreed to serve until a new superintendent is found. At the October 1st meeting of the Thermal Belt BPW Club. Peggy Constance was presented the "Woman of the Year" plaque. Certificates or recognition were presented to fie "Women of the Day”, Ruth Ann Ariedge. Betty Brewer. Mable Cowan. Jane Edwards and Wynona Fisher. These women will be honored more during the week of October 18 — 24. A spokesman said “they are women of outstanding achievement who have made great progress both personally and in service to their club and community." BP WPaper Drive This Week The Thermal Belt Business and Professional Women’s Club reminds all residents of their paper drive being held this week. A trailer is parked in the Community Cash parking lot in Landrum Tuesday through Sunday for the collection of newspaper, brown bags cardboard, magazines, catalogs books and corrugated boxes Residents are asked to place their items for collection in the trailer which will be open from 8:00 a m. to 9:00 p.m. Anyone who is unable to carry items to tr ^^ r is asked l ° contact Judy Ariedge at 894-8139 after 6:00 p.m. r Man Murdered On Trade Street Steve Faggart of Tryon was killed at 9:53 a.m. Tuesday while at work on the Faggart Building on North Trade Street here. Held for his murder is Alvin Edney Whiteside, also of Tryon. Tuesday morning, Tryon Police Chief Jerry Ross said that an autopsy had not been held and it had not been determined how many bullets had entered Taggart's body. Witnesses stated that he had been shot at close range by a hand gun. Chief Ross said that the cause of the shooting was not known at this time, but that the investigation was continuing. Dr. Charles Blomeley and Dr. Fred Wier, Polk County Medical Examiner examined the body at the site. Firemen’s Christmas Parade Dec. 9th The Tryon Volunteer Fire Department Christmas Parade will be held Wednesday, December 9th at 3 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate in the annual event should contact Fred Edwards, Chairman. Woods Fire The Tryon Voluntary Fire Department was called to Dr. Preston’s lake off Warrior Drive Tuesday morning. Louis Suber was burning some trash that got out of control. Homecoming Court At Tryon High The following young ladies have been nominated to the 1981 Homecoming Court at Tryon High School. They will be presented at ceremonies prior to the Tryon-Chesnee football game on Friday, October 16. From these young ladies the football team will choose one individual to represent them as Miss Tiger 1981. The student body will vote for Miss Homecoming 1981 who will be one of the five senior members of the court. Senior attendants for the 1981 court are: Miss Donna Arledge, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Earl Arledge, who was nominated to the court by Todd Constance; Miss Sherry Covil, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Covil, who was nominated to the court by David Kuether; Miss Lynn Carson, the daughter of Ms. Laura Carson, nominated to the court by Ricky Counts; Miss Martha Dye, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Minter, nominated to the court by Fred Jaeger; Miss Tracy Simpson, the daughter of Mrs. Ruth Simpson, who was nominated to the court by Thomas Hill.
