Wednesday morning was sunny and cool, but warmed up as the day went on. Today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is the Fall Bazaar at St. John’s Catholic Church. Tonight at 7:30 is Jan’s Fashion Show at the Landrum High School gymnasium. Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. Interpress Studios will be at The Upstairs Art Gallery to take pictures of children. The pictures will be published in the Bulletin at a later date. Friday from 6:30 to 12 p.m. is the Mill Spring Halloween Carnival. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. there will be a White Elephant Sale at the Sunny View Fire house. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Pea Ridge Community Club House will have “A Real Country Craft Fair.” Everything will be made locally. Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. is the Arts and Crafts Show at the Isothermal Community College in Tryon. Sunday at 3 p.m. the Photographic Society will Continued On Back Page A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence G Correll of Concord are parents of a daughter, Christiana Elizabeth, born Sunday, Oct. 18th at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. She weighed 7 pounds. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Allen Correll of Tryon and the maternal great grandfather is W. B. Foster of Saluda. Placement Tests Polk County Campus of Isothermal Community College will give the Placement Test for college students on Wednesday, October 28th, at 9:30 a.m. at the Jervey-Palmer Building on Carolina Drive. The test should take about 2 hours. The Placement Test must be taken by students entering or considering entering Math or English classes during the Winter Quarter. The tests are offered free of charge. Jail 859-5868 for details. Bruce Palmer Is Rotary Speaker The Tryon Rotary Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Hearthstone Inn. Rotarian H Bruce Palmer will speak on the subject “The Essence of Service.” A Rotarian for many years Mr. Palmer has had an active interest in public service. He has been a frequent speaker at service clubs throughout the country. His talk will give insight of his many experiences. Woman Of The Day Jane G. Edwards Named as Women of the Day during the week of Oct. 18 — 24 by the Thermal Belt BPW was Mrs. Jane Edwards. Mrs. Edwards is a Business Education Teacher at Polk Central High School. A native of Rutherford County, she received a B.S. degree in Business Education and Social Studies from Appalachian State Teachers College. She has taught at Polk Central since it opened in 1960. She sponsors the school newspaper; is Junior Class sponsor; Homecoming Advisor; Young Christian’s Club sponsor and co-ordinates the school-wide sales. She was named “Teacher of the Year” in Polk County in December 1979. Mrs. Edwards was sec.-treas. of the N. C. Association of Educators last year and is the current president of the Green Creek Little League. She is a Sunday School teacher at the Green River Baptist Church and has been active in the Polk Central PTA. Art Exhibit At Landrum Library The Landrum Friends of the Arts current art exhibit at the Landrum Branch Library features the works of Mrs. Sue Campbell Atkins, Gowensville native, and presently a resident of Landrum. This exhibit will be available until Nov. loth. Mrs. Atkins calls her work as “transformation of nature.” She uses materials on hand, these may be feathers, pine cones, driftwood, Money Plant, rice shells, fungi, apple seeds, etc. Her work has won blue ribbons for the past few years at the Blue Ridge Fair. She paints in oils and is a musician. She has built a dulcimer by hand and learned to play it. Pottery On Exhibit Jan Ashmore of Tryon, N. C. is among the Western North Carolina Artists and Craftsmen selected for the Annual October Show at the Asheville Art Museum. Art works Were selected for the show by the Curator of Contemporary Art from the High Museum, in Atlanta, Georgia. Singing There will be a Singing Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Free Will Baptist Church featuring Don Atkins Singers and The Templettes. Rev. Robert Price is the pastor.
