The program will be “Spare Parts”, the singing of English Madrigals and other light Renaissance music. Dr. Mark McCall is in charge of the program. Tryon Youth Center Halloween Dance Tryon Youth Center, Inc. is sponsoring a Halloween Dance for the Tryon High School students on Saturday, Oct. 31. The dance will be in the Elementary School gym. Revival At Pacolet Baptist Revival is in progress at Pacolet Baptist Church. Rev. Leon Nicholson is the visiting evangelist. Services begin each night at 7 o’clock through Friday Oct. 30th. The public is invited. In France James Bridges, son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Bridges has been sent to Faverges, France for one month and then on to Horgen Switzerland for a month. Jim is employed by Staubli Ltd., a knitting machine co. with headquarers in France and Switzerland. Named President Of Cancer Society Dr. Joseph Stayman Dr. Joseph Stayman has been named President of the Polk County Unit of the American Cancer Society. Dr. Stayman served as Director of Surgery at Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia for 20 years, and Clinical Professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College where he is now Professor Emeritus of Surgery. He and his wife, Barbara, moved to the Tryon area from Philadelphia in June of 1980. He is now a consulting surgeon at St. Luke’s Hospital and has recently been named President of the Polk County Medical Society. Dr. Stayman states that he is looking forward to another great year for the American Cancer Society and requests the support of each resident of Polk County. House Burns A vacant house on Fairview Farms was destroyed by fire Saturday about 10:30 p.m. The Landrum Volunteer Fire Department answered the call, but the house was destroyed before the alarm was turned in. House Saved The home of ’Mr. and Mrs. Austin Carswell in the Fairview Community was saved Saturday about 6:30 p.m. when the Landrum Fire Department arrived just before the wall caught on fire. Something was burning on the stove and the damage was limited to that done by the smoke.
