Duke Power Co. is cashing in
on the wastepaper it once threw
away. In 1980 the company
recycled 694 tons of wastepaper
which brings in from $60,000 to
$70,000 a year.

Carolyn Roff will run in the
Cross Country State Finals
Friday in Charlotte. Last spring
she qualified for the State Finals
in the mile and now she has
qualified in the cross country.

Meet Monday
The Polk County
Commissioners will meet
Monday at 3 p.m. at the
courthouse in Columbus.
Tryon School Bd.
Meets Monday
The Tryon School Board will
meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the
Tryon High School.
Stearns School
Halloween Carnival
The Stearns School Halloween
Carnival will be held Saturday at
6:30 p.m in the auditorium.
There will be games, food, bingo,
a country store and a haunted
house.
Art Exhibit
The Arts League of Henderson
County will present its Month of
November Art Exhibit in
Hepburn Hall of Opportunity
house, 819 Fleming Street,
Hendersonville, opening with a
reception from 3 to 5 p.m.,
Sunday, November 1. The
reception and exhibit are open to
the public.
The November exhibit will
include a variety of paintings in
all media by members of the Arts
League. Featured will be the
paintings in all media of Phillip
Moose of Blowing Rock.

Crafts Fair
The annual Arts and Crafts fair
got off without a hitch Sunday.
Despite the inclement weather
and parking problems about 200
county residents came to the
Jervey-Palmer building in Tryon
to browse and buy the wares that
were on display.
The Craft Fair is sponsored by
the Continuing Education
Division of the Polk Campus. All
the craft classes had articles on
display which ranged from
ceramics, decorative painting,
macrame’, cake decorating,
upholstery, furniture refinishing,
sewing, quilting, and
woodcarving.
Free blood pressure tests were
given by St. Luke’s Hospital. The
fair ended with a fashion show
presented by Mrs. Winnell
Bailey’s sewing students, each
one wearing outfits they had

Rhodes with a 67. Low net of 69-
17-52 was won by H. P. Morgan,
Bill Lewis, Buford Bowen and
Peter Jensen.
Results of the Western North
Carolina Class: Glen Roberson,
Conestee Falls Professional had
a 72-74-146; John Sronce of
Asheville was the low amateur.
In the Pro-Am the team of Glen
Roberson, Walter Converse,
Howard Carpenter and Bill
McCord won.

Annual Meeting
For Farm Bureau
The annual meeting of the
Polk County Farm Bureau
membership will be held
Monday, Nov. 2nd. at 7 p.m. at
the Polk Central High School
Cafeteria. The family gathering
will consist of a covered dish
supper with Polk County Farm
Bureau furnishing the beverages,
followed by a brief business
meeting, entertainment and door
prizes.
Region C EMS
Council Meeting
The Region C EMS Council will
meet on Wednesday, November
4, at 7:00 p.m. in the office of the
Isothermal Planning and
Development Commission in
Rutherfordton.
