Today at 3 p.m. Priscilla Pearson of Saluda will talk to the Polk County Historical Association at the Polk County Library in Columbus. Challenging the Polish Parliament and national union leaders, local Solidarity unionists planned new strikes and vowed Sunday to continue wildcat protests now idling some 250,000 workers across Poland. The Swedish authorities and the Russians are still at a stalemate over the Soviet submarine which ran aground in a restricted military area in Sweden. Thursday at 8 p.m. is the first of the Tryon Kiwanis Club travelogues This Thursday will be "The Magic of Morocco" with Steve Gonser as the narrator The Bulletin — 10‘ Per Copy Landrum Lions Meet Tonight The Landrum Lions Club will meet tonight at 7 o'clock at the Landrum Civic Center. Jim Hendricks, who is Principal Engineer in Duke Power's Design Engineering Department will be the guest speaker. He will tell about the varoius energy sources. Chamber President Is Kiwanis Speaker The Tryon Kiwanis Club will meet today at 12:45 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. Robert Scruggs, president of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce will talk about the plans of the Chamber and some of the activities it carries out during the year. Mrs. J. S. (Gelolo) Kell, who made her home on Berry Street in Tryon for many years, now lives in Michigan. Her address is: Mrs. J. S. Kell, Springbrook Manor, 2320 East Beltline, Grand Rapids, Mich. 49506. She would love to hear from her Tryon friends. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dedmondt and Miss Max Dedmondt have returned to Tryon from attending the annual state meeting of the American Cancer Society in Raleigh. They were accompanied by the Dedmondts’ daughter Mrs. Madelyn Jordan of Charlotte. Awards Given To Red Fox Women On October 29th the Women’s Golf Association of Red Fox closed its '81 season with a nine hole/three club Fun Day followed by an awards luncheon and election of officers for 1982. Many prizes were awarded to winner and runners-up of season's events previously reported. In addition were year- end winners: Most improved golfer: two way tie Nancy Manchester, Joan Black; Most birdies: Nancy Manchester; Most chip-ins: Three-way tie Nancy Manchester, Elinor Albertson, Fran Cody; Ringers: Class A, Nancy Manchester; Class B,; Class C, Ginny Carr. Silver bowls were awarded: Grandmother Bowl: tie, Ruth Mumford, Fran Hull; Spring Handicap, Joan Black; Club Championship, Dee Griffith, All members shared in the White Elephant prizes for the day. The slate for the 1982 officers were approved and is as follows: Chairman, Mrs. William T. Reed; Vice-Chairman, Mrs. George W. Percy, Jr.; Secretary. Mrs. Harold Eggert; Treasurer, Mrs. George Cleveland. Meet Tonight Tryon City Lodge No. 518 p H.F. & A.M. will meet tonight at 8:00. — Robert Fox W.M.; George R. Fant, Sec. Home Destroyed By Fire Sunday The home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Pack on Hwy. 14, Landrum was destroyed by fire Sunday morning. The Landrum Fire Department received the call Sunday at 1 a.m, but the fire had made too much headway to save the house. Mr. and Mrs. Pack were.not at home at the time of the fire. The Landrum Fire Department was called back Monday at 2:30 a.m. when the remains of the house caught back up. Mobile Home Partially Burned A mobile home at 405 East Tucker Street, Landrum was damaged by fire Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock. Ronnie Campbell was home at the time of the fire, but the cause of the fire was not known. The Landrum Fire Department responded to the call and kept the fire from destroying the mobile home. Energy Program Mrs. Loretta Kilpatrick, Consumer Education Representative with Duke Power Company will present a program on Energy Reducing Plan For The Eighties and Christmas Decorating Ideas, on Tuesday, November 10 at 2 p m. and again at 7 p m. This will be held in the conference room of the Agricultural Building in Columbus. The public is invited.
