that it could be rescheduled

No. 2 spot while North Carolina is
No 8. Clemson and UNC will play
each other Saturday at Chapel
Hill.
In New Jersey, Republican
Thomas Kean held a narrow lead
over Democratic Congressman
James J. Florio and in Virginia
Lt. Gov. Charles S. Robb, a
Democrat and son-in-law of the
late Lyndon B. Johnson, is the
apparent winner over Republican
Attorney General Marshall
Coleman.
Locally the big surprise was
the successful write-in vote to put
Roscoe Watson in as Mayor in
Columbus. Mr. Watson served as
mayor of Columbus a number of
years ago.

Tucker; Fincher and
Phillips Elected
In Tryon
In an uncontested election in
Tryon Tuesday, Mayor Ken
Tucker was re-elected with 203
votes. In the Council race Ellis
Fincher received a 4-year term
with 199 and incumbent Melvin
Phillips a two-year term with 169
votes.
Extra Performance
Due to the sale of tickets, an
extra performance has been
scheduled for "An Evening of
Iroadway Show Stoppers." It has
oeen scheduled for the evening of
Saturday, Nov. 14th, one week
liter the formal opening of
Christine and Stephen Fitch’s
new Barn Door theater-in-the-
round in Landrum this Friday
and Saturday.
Watson Write-In
Winner In Columbus
Mayor’s Race
H. Roscoe Watson received
197 write-in votes Tuesday to
defeat incumbent Ted Owens who
received 115 votes in the
Columbus Municipal election.
Incumbent Harry Denton lost
out in the Council race as
incumbent Mary Hicks was high
with 243, followed by newcomer
Pat Wilson with 207. Denton had
141. Roscoe Watson also received
1 vote for councilman.
Little; Carruth and
Turner Elected
In Landrum
Mayor Dever Little was re-
elected Mayor of Landrum
Tuesday and he defeated former
Mayor Robert Cogdell 434 votes
to 247.
The City of Landrum will have
two new councilmen as Mike
Carruth with 434 and Robert
Turner with 376 were elected.
Incumbent Ray Mayfield was
third with 216 followed by Alford
Mullins 130, Gerald Barnette 94,
Edmund Komant 42 and Bill Hill
38. A total of 683 went to the polls.
There were 670 who voted by
machine and 13 absentees
Leland Re-Elected
In Saluda
In an election with no
opposition, Saluda Mayor Cater
Leland was re-elected Tuesday
with 52 votes. For City Council,
(elect two) Homer Taylor had 51
and Genelle Pace 48. Taylor was
an incumbent.
Singing Sunday
There will be a Singing Sunday
at 7 p.m. at the Beulah Baptist
Church. Special guests will be the
Kinney Family of Forest City.
The Rev. Dillard Davidson is the
pastor.

New Beta Members
At Tryon High
The Tryon High School Beta
Club initiated new members and
officers in a candle light
ceremony recently before the
student body. Members of this
organization must be
Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors
who maintain an average of 90 or
above. The new members for the
1981-82 school year are: Billy
Barham, Julie Bishop, Jessica
Lonnes, Constance MacVean,
Becky Maxwell, Kim
Omohundro, Tiffany Pack, Tracy
Reynolds, Sean Rindge, Scott
Warren. Kathey Williams, Monta
Wray, Lawana Littlejohn, Sharon
Miller, Pedro Coehlo, and
Marlene Lair, Tina Foster was
chosen by the old members to be
this year’s service member.

St. Luke’s Nurses
Get Big Hurrah
In 1923 Elinor Stokes graduated
in Nursing from Union Hospital
in Baltimore and in 1981 she was
pinned with a corsage as "most
senior nurse” at St. Luke’s tea
party, just held, honoring the
hospital's nursing staff.

she looks great," said Director of
Nursing Doris Sanders, in
