Charles Lankford Appointed Honorary Town Clerk At the Tryon Town Council meeting Monday night, Charles Lankford was appointed as Honorary Town Clerk for the December 14th organizational town meeting. For the past 28 years Mr. Lankford has served on the council as mayor, mayor pro tern and commissioner. He did not offer for re-election this year. The Board approved the leasing of office space in the town hall to the Thermal Belt Cable Television Co. at $60 per month. The Board turned down an offer to purchase town property next to Skee’s Exxon Station on S. Trade St. from Vince Tinney. The Board adjourned to executive session to discuss land acquisition. New Arrival SSG and Mrs. Marvin J. Page of Korea are parents of a son, Marvin Jerome, Jr., born on Nov’ 9th. He weighed 8 lbs. 1 oz. Earle Elementary School and the Landrum Friends of the Arts as part of their continuing Evening Arts Series. The program will be held Tuesday, November 17 at 7:30 p m. in the Landrum High school Gym. Featured for the evening will be the Green Creek Mass Choir, the Little Mountain String Band, and the Green Creek Cloggers. C. are parents of a son, Jonathan Brent, born November 9th at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg, S. C. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank McAbee of Landrum and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Dean Butler of Tryon. The maternal great- grandmother is Mrs. Pearl Foster of Lynn and the paternal great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Huss of Tryon and Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Butler of Morganton. AARP Meets Tuesday, Nov. 17th The annual meeting of Polk County Chapter No. 2182 (NRTA/AARP) will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18th at 10 a.m. at the Tryon Presbyterian Church, Harmon Field Rd. Officers for 1982 will be elected at this meeting. Mrs. Doris Sanders, Director of Nurses, St., Luke’s Hospital will be the guest speaker. Dues for 1982 will be accepted at this meeting. Refresments will be served prior to the business meeting. All members are requested to be present, and guests are welcome. A Suicide The death of Alvin Curtis Barnette, 39, who died Monday, has been ruled an apparent suicide, said Spartanburg County Coroner Steve Lanford. Barnette, of Blanton Street, Columbus, N. C. was found outside a residence on New Cut Road, Inman, at about 3:20 p.m. with a single gunshot wound in the head. Lanford said paraffin tests, which shows a person had fired a gun, were positive.
